hawaii part 2

Friday, July 20

If you're ever interested in eating an exalted donut, go ahead and get yourself a ticket to Hawaii and head straight for Leonard's Bakery to grab a dozen of their cinnamon sugar malasadas. Coming from someone who could take or leave a donut any day {sour patch kids > baked goods every time}, believe me when I say that these suckers are a hot piece of heaven in a pink box.

One of our favorite things about this whole trip was getting to snorkel in a couple different places around the island, but especially at Hanauma Bay. If there's such a thing as fan-girling over tropical fish and adorable sea turtles, please allow me to insert that moment now. It was amazing! Such an incredibly beautiful world under the water. When all of the girls went out snorkeling on our own a few days later, we ended up swimming right over a shark! It was a 5 ft baby white tip ... so I guess it was like half a shark? Either way, now I know exactly what it would take for me to win any sort of swimming race.

Tyson and I also went over to visit Pearl Harbor, but sadly we missed the tour for the USS Arizona memorial so we toured the other ships and submarines instead. Huge guns ... torpedoes ... battleships ... Tyson didn't have any fun at all that day. ;) Actually it's kind of hilarious how many pictures I have of him looking exactly the same, just in front of a different piece of battle equipment every time.

Also on the list of things I'd recommend: A fresh sushi picnic with friends on the beach at sunset, immediately followed by a fireworks show. Not a sentence that actually exists in real life, but it should. Oh and Uncle Bo's! UNCLE BOOOOOOO'S! This is what I sing in the shower these days. Honestly, it doesn't look like much on the outside, but the food will kill you dead. Strictly in a good way. We loved it so much, we ate there twice and still hadn't had enough. For any locals or soon-to-be visitors, all we did was order about 7 different appetizers {or pupu's} so that we could each try a little bit of everything, and it was perfect. If anything, you should go just to experience vocalizing that you'd like to order 7 pupu's.

Gorgeous. And I don't just mean the shirtless surfer man.

Fun fact: That famous kissing photo was staged! I was shocked when I learned that awhile ago. I always thought it was genuine.

sour patch kids > better than baked goods. I 100% agree. My maid of honor got me a giant bag of sour patch kids to snack on the day of the wedding and she had to portion them out to me because she knew if she handed me the bag I'd down them and then have a raw tongue to say my vows with.

Sydney, I loved looking at your photos! I can identify most of the sights, because my husband and I visited Oahu a year ago. It was, by far, the most relaxing vacation we have taken. We fell in love with the laid back, slow pace of "island life." Thanks for sharing!
