Friday, May 11

I recently heard something really beautiful. While my friend was resting in between labor contractions, her midwife told her that some Native American tribes believe that it's during those quiet times, between all the hard work, that the woman is actually out searching through the stars for the soul of her child.
Brings tears to my eyes just to think of it. The day that I became a mother was incredibly painful and spiritual and exhausting and beautiful. Feelings I didn't know could be felt were felt that day. And they've only expanded since. At times it still seems surreal that this little person, who looks at me in that wide-eyed Everett way that only he can, is mine forever.

I get to have my very first mother's day this weekend, {last year I was only three months into my pregnancy, so it didn't feel very legit} and I'm so happy I get to spend it with the two people who made me a mama. And I'm so grateful that I was the lucky one chosen to bring this beautiful soul, in all of his curiosity and mild-mannered innocence, to earth.
Happy mother's day to mothers and future mothers everywhere! Especially to my own beautiful mom, and mother-in-law. We love you.

happy mother's day to you!!

i wish i could see my mom on sunday :( but... she is over 600 miles away while i'm in new jersey... sometimes being an adult is NO fun... having to move so far to chase a career leaves me SO far from my mama.

I'm gonna make cookies for my momma for the special day, despite that we have presented her an iPad.

I'm right there with you. Last Mother's Day I was 2 months pregnant and people asked me how I was going to celebrate. It seemed too weird to celebrate, especially after having gone through a loss. But this year I get to celebrate with my wonderful husband and my healthy, smiley, giggly, cuddly baby boy.

Happy mama's day!

I absolutely LOVE your blog...not sure if I've ever commented. I'm wondering where the main places you shopped when you were prego were because you always looked so cute. I'm 18 weeks with twins and having a hard time finding CUTE clothes that aren't WAY expensive. :)

That baby of yours is so freaking cute. Everyonce in a while I'll get on to check up and see how you and your men are doing. Encourages me to know there is happiness to be found out there and good things will come to me if I wait.

Happy Mothers day to you :)

Sydney, I found your blog last year right around mother's day when I was also 3 months pregnant with my first (a boy too!). Everett and my son Sebastien actually look a lot alike...you know, baldish, roundish, chubby cheeks, double chins, eyebrow skills, cute smile...all that stuff.

Although I gave birth almost a whole month after you, I feel like we're kind of kindred spirits as far as motherhood goes. I'm giving a talk on sunday at church - "the blessings of motherhood" got any ideas for me? I've got a bunch of mushy ones like "i get to wake up to a smiling face every day" etc. but I'm having a hard time putting into words actual, legitimate, appropriate-for-a-talk things.

Anyways, happy mother's day!

When I was pushing and the midwife told me that, it was the one thing that gave me the courage and strength to go on. It is such a beautiful metaphor, right? I think of it often when I look down at sweet baby Jude and the soul I found that day :). xoxo and Happy Mothers Day!

Thank you for saying that at 3 months last year you didn't feel very legit. I'll be 12 weeks on Mother's Day this year and I feel very "not quite there" about it. I can't wait until next year when I have an outside baby to enjoy on mother's day. Your pictures are adorable by the way!

I think your thoughts on motherhood are so inspiring. I've been following your blog for about a year now and I still remember me being so excited for you when you first told all of us you were pregnant. It's weird because I have never ever met you or anything but I somehow felt really excited and involved and I was praying and hoping for a healthy baby. I'm only 20 years old but like I said you inspire me and make me want to start a family on my own. I think you are a wonderful mom! You deserve a lovely mother's day!
