I guess you could say that my dentist's appointment yesterday went really well. I got 5 points for no cavities and negative 50 points for needing both my wisdom teeth pulled and an Invisalign recommendation. That's right. Invisalign guys ... braces for old people. {Hey did I ever tell you about that time I accidentally swallowed my permanent retainer? Well THIS is the after story}
But I say to heck with it. Bring on the metal and the always excellent green rubber bands! I pose as a 12 year old ... we get discounts at the movies and the 12 and under lunch specials... everybody wins!

Invisalign is the BEST option to regular braces- I had both and LOVED the invisalign. And really, the only people who can tell you are wearing it are those who know what it is/ have had them before.
And besides, you can make anything look fashionable!

This outfit is so darling! Best of luck the dentistry, I guess it could be much worse (no Invisalign?)
Have a great weekend!

March 16, 2012 5:13 AM

I had braces recently for the second time. I decided to go with the clear braces for 2 reasons over invisalign. #1 - it's a lot cheaper and #2 it's half the amount of time of wear. Instead of wearing for 1 year (with invisa), I wore 5 months with clear braces.

PS - Wisdom teeth removal isn't so bad.

So in love with this outfit; that skirt couldn't BE more adorable. Don't worry about getting your wisdom teeth out/ I had mine done two or three years ago and it wasn't bad. Just make sure to keep ice on your face right afterwards; you'll avoid swelling!

March 16, 2012 5:22 AM

Just have to say you make a beautiful brunette!

March 16, 2012 5:26 AM

amazing skirt :o

March 16, 2012 5:49 AM

Love the polka dots.

I have two wisdom teeth that need to be taken out, too. I've been avoiding it for a while...

March 16, 2012 5:54 AM

Well, the plus side to getting your wisdom teeth pulled is that you get to eat ice cream & popsicles for a few days straight (and not feel guilty about it)! Also, you look beautiful here - love the fullness of this skirt! :)

I wish I could afford to get braces, I've always needed them! I also need my wisdom teeth pulled but they are growing through now and ugh it's painful! You look great in this outfit! I love it!

Haha! I hate going to the dentist. I have never had braces, but I have had some cavities and they are sooo annoying. I just had all my wisdom teeth out last year...not as bas as people made it out to be. Good Luck. Love the skirt and again I love your hair!!

March 16, 2012 6:11 AM

that skirt is AMAZING!!

husband and i both had major dental issues last year, so i definitely feel your pain. 2 chipped teeth, a root canal and about 6 cavities for me (woops!). and i'm avoiding the wisdom teeth business for as long as possible!

March 16, 2012 6:18 AM

There's definitely no metal involved with Invisalign! I had it a few years ago and honestly, no one EVER knew I was wearing anything. The only downside is taking it out to eat (awkward when in public) and the little bit of pain you get for a day or two when you change the aligners every 2 weeks.

March 16, 2012 6:27 AM

Hahah...I just did a post on polka dots Pinkplz.com

Love the skirt! I am so stalking those shoes! I must get them.

March 16, 2012 6:27 AM

hah, that's funny, I would never think you needed braces though. Your teeth look fine! And I'm in love with the skirt and shoes. Fab.

March 16, 2012 6:28 AM

I love that skirt, is super pretty and feminine! ... Dentists? ugh not my fave people (this coming from a 24 year old with braces ... still!) feel your pain, but in the end you'll love the results!

you swallowed your permanent retainer?? That's huge. When they were removing my braces, I swallowed one of the metal bands that surrounds a molar. My dentist panicked and was thumping on my back. But it was fine :)

March 16, 2012 6:48 AM

That skirt is adorable - I love that you paired it with a graphic tee! It's 70s but not! Love it!

I had braces my sophomore year in college (it was more for my jaw than my teeth...) But I am firm believer that if you embrace it, you can pull it off! I even wore hot pink rubber bands when it matched my clothing... Seriously! With something like that you have to embrace it and just have fun!
Love the polka dots!

I just had Invisalign (by my own personal recommendation ;) and loved it. Ok, I love the results (and my teeth weren't even that bad). It wasn't noticeable at all when wearing, although initially inconvenient. Too bad it's dang expensive, but worth it in my book.

March 16, 2012 7:10 AM

I got that same shpeel at my last dental appointment. I guess my parents were right about regretting not wearing that retainer back in the day.
I'm now trying to convince myself my imperfect smile adds a little quirkiness. :)

You have a gorgeous smile...I swear sometimes dentist just make recommendations to line their pockets. I have soft enamel...something that makes it super easy to have damaged teeth but it can be helped buy anything containing fluoride. My dentist's first suggestion was that he wanted to cap all me teeth! Ridiculous!

Good luck with the wisdom teeth removal...ice ice ice those cheeks all the time!

I had braces put on when I was 19 and taken off when I was 21..my fam couldn't afford it when I was little so I had to wait to pay for them myself when I was older! I don't regret it one bit. Yes, they were annoying and I was self-conscious. But WAY worth it! :) Good luck lovely.

you could absolutely rock a metal mouth. but, i say go for the invisalign. :)

Ugh the denist. I practically lived there a few years ago. Seriously i was going to 3 different dentists every week. Regular denist, orthodontist, and the dentist who did my implant. It was rough. Braces twice, bone graft surgery twice, gum cutting, implant, veneer...all going on while i was still in high school or just out. I have yet to have my wisdom teeth out. Good luck with everything.

March 16, 2012 7:35 AM

Fun and Beautiful Outfit!!!!!! Totally my style! Good luck with the teeth Mama, you will be just fine, I mean hey nothing can be any more painful than having a baby, right? hahaaa Have a fabulous weekend!

LOVE that skirt. I accidently threw out my retainer many times but I have to admit that swallowing it is a new record.

Those polka dots are completely darling!
Sometimes I feel like the dentist is a persistent salesman. Last time he and the hygenist asked me 5 times if I wanted to fix this tiny chip in my tooth. The last time I finally told them I want to keep it as a memory and then they asked if I wanted whitening products...

Super fun skirt and it's always interesting to see people wear logo/screen print tees in a cute way. Would love to hear more ideas for that!

I had Invisalign retainers senior year of high school and highly recommend them. So easy! Now I just have to wear them at night. Metal in my mouth scares me.

March 16, 2012 8:54 AM

O my this skirt is fabulous! And of course it's from Windsor they can do no wrong.

My condolences to your wisdom teeth

March 16, 2012 9:01 AM

Love the skirt, simple but classic and stunning.

I've had braces twice. First time around was alright. Then, once they were removed, my orthodontist was noticing from xrays that my jaw was shifting backwards (they knew I had TMJ). Well long story short, I had my wisdoms then removed and then braces for another year and then I had jaw surgery. I had my upper and lower broken. The upper had 1cm of bone removed from both sides and then moved forward a bit. The bottom jaw was broken and moved. Both top and bottom have tons of plates and screws holding it all together and I also have a titanium chin now. Makes for interesting conversation pieces going through airport security. lol. No one needs to talk to me about ortho issues, been there, done that, don't want to go over that again.

Anyways, enough about me.

Have a great weekend girl!

March 16, 2012 9:02 AM

Wow!! The skirt! I love it! :)

March 16, 2012 9:12 AM

March 16, 2012 9:28 AM

Love ya as a brunette! Don't feel bad. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out a few years ago (on top of the other 4 permanent teeth I had taken out as a child. I have a really small jaw apparently) And a year ago I got metal braces on for the second time. I wanted the clear brackets but the ortho said they don't have enough torque. So I've been having lots of fun changing my band colors every few weeks. Black for Hallloween, red for Christmas, pink for Valentines Day, Green for St Paddy's,etc. Even my husband is having fun picking out my next color. :)

March 16, 2012 9:30 AM

oh you can rock them! I had braces about 2 years ago and I'm 24. I thought it would be the pits but it went by quickly! Now I'm so happy I had them! BTW love the skirt!!

March 16, 2012 9:37 AM

Go girl go!! If you get 'em maybe I will, too. {Invisalign might be a bit less obvious, but a lisp is a lisp}

March 16, 2012 9:43 AM

i JUST got invisalign yesterday and I had the same thought- adult braces, really!? luckily no one can tell you are wearing them AT ALL but they hurt!!

March 16, 2012 9:45 AM

turns out, i was chewing on metal..

lovely.

You'll do fine with the wisdom teeth removal! Just don't talk on the way home right afterwards or your mouth will fill up with blood and you'll feel like a vampire. (Yuck! lesson learned). I had mine out a few years ago and as long as you take the pain medicine and lay low, it's no prob.

p.s. I think your dentist is trying to make some $$ on the Invisalign, your smile is great!

March 16, 2012 10:05 AM

i'm SURE you will make braces a hot new fashion trend :) loooove the skirt!!

first time commenting here. I've been following your blog since you only had 200 followers. I don't know why it's taken me this long to leave you a comment... Obvi this braces talk seemed to inspired me to do so.

Braces... Oh, braces. I have metal ones on right now. Its my first. Growing up, i didn't feel the need to get one, but as I grew older, my tiny overbite started to bother me. Now, I'm 24 and I have braces. I'd be lying if I said it didn't hinder my social life. But... I only had them on for 12 weeks. If I had gone with the clear braces or invisalign it would have been A LOT longer. I guess it's a personal choice. I wanted to get mine done and over with. So I opted for the fastest route.
Hope all goes well with dentistry stuff!

Wisdom teeth removal isn't so bad. I just had mine out about 6 months ago...something I wish I would have done before I had a baby, but you know! Anyway, I am one of those freaks of nature that has 2 SETS of wisdom teeth. That's 8 teeth!! And managed the pain with only Tylenol. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

March 16, 2012 11:53 AM

Braces? Seriously!? YOur teeth look perfect? I agree that dentist make these suggestions when are so not necessary! Do we really have to look 100% perfect in every way!? SAD I think! ;-((

March 16, 2012 12:18 PM

When I was young my previous dentist pulled one of my teeth, for no reason. Well, she THOUGHT my cheek was to narrow for all my teeth to grow normal, but she was wrong. The result? a 0.5cm gap between my two front teeth. I can't wear braces because I get cavities very easily and my teeth are too weak to carry braces for two whole years.

I'm still remember a post you did once where you said something about your hubby's big smile, without ever wearing braces. Tell him he's a lucky man!

Hope you won't have to wear those invisible braces for too long =)

Cute outfit!

I am a hygienist, and I would definitely say that braces are more effective then Invisalign. Sorry but that's just what we have seen at our office (unless it is a tiny change and you aren't trying to change the alignment of your jaw). My husband is having to redo braces for a 2nd time and not looking forward to it, but the end result will be totally worth it! Sorry you have to redo it, it's a bummer. Also wisdom teeth aren't so bad if you are sedated and you take ibuprofen afterwards. I sure you will handle it like a champ! If you have questions let me know if I can help!

March 16, 2012 1:19 PM

Hey I had invisalign when I was 23! People can't even tell you have them in. Although, whenever I would start a new tray, it did give me a slight lisp for a couple days. But no biggie. I do know that invisalign is super super expensive! Like $3000 more than normal braces My mom works for an orthodontist though, so mine were free. Thank goodness. Either way, you'll look fab I'm sure!

March 16, 2012 2:04 PM

Good luck with your invisalign! I've had braces for about three months now and I can already see a lot of progress! Really, you're so pretty I don't think you need them! :)

March 16, 2012 2:49 PM

Hi Sidney!

I had Invisalign for a while, unfortunately my case was a bit difficult and I didn't get the results I wanted. If I could go back in time I would do braces because they guarantee results. You'll beautiful in whichever you choose though!

Lots of love,

I work for a dentist and Invislign may the longer than braces as it's a gradual process but you seriously CAN NOT tell you even have them on!

Go invisalign... dooo ittt!

i totally just had braces for the second time in my life. agh! i did braces though and not invisalign. i had them for 10 months and i survived. you can do it! so much better in the long run.

skirt's adorable!

March 16, 2012 6:39 PM

love your skirt!!! so cute! and invisalign braces are awesome! no wires or brackets, completely invisable retainer that covers your teeth! they're awesome and i promise you'll end up liking them!!

March 16, 2012 8:35 PM

I know how you feel! I'm 25 and get my braces off in 2 months...worst 1 year of my adult life lol. I had to have the old school metal/ceramic tho because of TMJ! At least you get invisalign :) I'm sure you'll be adorable no matter what!

March 16, 2012 8:52 PM

braces are worth it, but dont be like me and not wear rubberbands! I had mine on for years. you're inspiring me to wear my retainer tonight, and from now on! xo

March 16, 2012 9:51 PM

So are you getting invisalign, or braces? Invisalign are clear retainers, and braces, well, you know what braces are.... :)

March 16, 2012 10:11 PM

So, braces are all about vanity (which I realized at the ripe age of 27 when I got braces) and because of that reason, I feel it is totally reasonable to get the least repulsive-looking braces possible. I was going to get invisalign & then my orthodontist started doing lingual braces which are just regular braces but on the inside surface of your teeth. They were about $1000 less than invisalign & the orthodontis has more control over adjusting tightness and stuff to straighten your teeth. With invisalign, they make the staged plastic retainers & even if they aren't doing a great job of straightening your teeth out, you just have to finish the course of treatment. I was told that is part of why it is so expensive, the cost of repeating a second set of trays is built into the price. Just so ya know!

March 16, 2012 11:58 PM

I honestly have a polka dot obsession, love that skirt!

March 17, 2012 10:24 AM

I went to Windsor.com to get the skirt. Found a coupon online for 10% off if you type in daybook.

March 17, 2012 11:24 AM

Sydney! I work in a dental office and have seen many many patients go through the invisalign process! I HIGHLY recommend it! But you are perfect just the way you are! :)

March 17, 2012 12:27 PM

With invisalign you wont have the metal! It'll be like thick bleach trays!

Also had my wisdom teeth removed recently! Ate a lot of custard and jelly! I am certain that you will rock the braces, love your style!

I had Invisalign when I was 23 and it was the best thing I ever did. I never had braces, but needed them badly. I was done, with perfectly straight teeth in 6 months. I would have taken 2 years with regular braces. Do it, you won't regret it.

Braces rock! If you ever relocate to the Queen City I know a great orthodontist to go to! ;) And- even if you wanted to rock the Invisalign- always go to a specialist (aka Orthodontist) who knows how to move teeth. Dentists can attend a weekend course and be allowed to supply Invisalign to their patients. Not something I would ever recommend! Good luck- you'll be as gorgeous as ever!
