You know how sometimes your husband comes home from work and your baby is crying and dinner is slowly drying itself to jerky on the stove because you started it too early? And then you sit down to eat that gloriously dry dinner and discover your vegetables strongly resemble something that's crawled up from the salty dead sea and died on your plate? {Because hey, why use less salt when you can use MORE?!} And then after dinner, your glaringly bright computer screen has your name written all over it, right along with other fun words like "deadline"and "do this right now or I'm coming over there to kick your bum" {emails to yourself are normal}. So you settle in to work right? And your husband goes upstairs to change the baby while you secretly laugh to yourself because the baby saved that particular gem of a diaper just for him.
And then some time goes by and your husband is sitting on the couch with your baby, who's now dressed in clean pajamas and smells like bath soap and apricots, when suddenly you realize that you haven't even given that man a kiss yet. Not even a little "how was your day" peck, because well dang ... you were too busy serving up a masterful dinner of jerky and dead vegetables while your mommy brain was on repeat, "Baby is crying. Can't think. Must calm baby." So you drop that computer mouse like a hot potato and you go over there and blah blah blah mushy stuff. And the work continues to pile up, and cold cereal is supplemented and sleep evades you as always. But hey. There was still like 10 seconds of mushy.

you're such a beautiful woman!!! :) love your outfits!!
Hey, 10 seconds of mushy counts! We don't even have diapers and crying to deal with and sometimes my husband and I manage to forget the mushy amongst dinner and emails (and World of Warcraft, but we won't go there).
Like you in that skirt!
Jen

At least there was that 10 seconds of mushy....
Love every detail about your outfit :)
Luvv, Leigh B
THAT WAS GREAT AND LOVE YOUR OUTFIT TODAY!
it does get easier. trust me. there were times i didn't think it would...but it does. the 10 seconds of mushy soon turns into 10 minutes and then hours and then you find yourself looking at your toddler who is equal parts hilarious and mischevious at the same time and you suddenly begin to think that you maybe (just maybe) are ready to do it all over again. sleep deprevation and all.
*sigh* motherhood.....

awww I guess this is what we call real life, right? 10 seconds of mushy is still better than 0 seconds of mushy. And I'm sure there are days when there's a lot more mushy, but not every day can be perfect and romantic and all that. Thanks for keepin' it real.
At least you got in the ten minutes of mushy! You sound very busy so I imagine he feels lucky to get the 10 minutes of attention
I'm also a serial salter.. everything i serve has salt on it.. sometimes a little (a lot) too much xx
You're such an awesome blogger!! Love your style of writing, you should write a book or something. I'd sure read it :)
xo

You just described my night to a T. I always have to remember if there was a kiss which is sad cuz it used to be a make out sesh haha
Heheheh! Yum. Salt:) at least there were some mushy moments and apriicot appreciating. I would say your priorities always line up in the end:):):)
I'm sure every mom has days like that! And I can imagine you are doing a fabulous job! I love this outfit. I want to wear some of my maxi skirts/dresses in the winter but don't know what shoes to wear! What are you wearing on your feet??
As long as the mush is there! That is what matters.
Killer outfit by the way!

love the hat!!!!
LOVE the stripes, and scarf, and the hat! Well done, as per usual!
You are just too gorgeous! Go the mushy time! :D
I think all mamas understand. It's not glam, but it's real life :) And I'd rather have it this way than any other!!
Woman, you need an assistant! Seriously. Or a nanny. (Don't gasp, its not a four-letter word). I know you are super-momma/super-blogger/super-wifey extraordinaire, which you make me believe on a DAILY basis when I come visit your wonderful little piece of Internet heaven, but don't forget to take care of your wonderfully-awesome self too. Have an awesome Tuesday!
All this chaos and you still pull off a beautiful look!

I don't envy that situation, takes a calm woman to deal with all that!
It's amazing that you have such a lovely blog! and clearly a lovely hubby too.

I don't even have a little one to attend to and this happens to me! Last night, I made beef tips over noodles, started the noodles WAY too early; they were mush by the time hubs got home. Then it was need to do this, need to do that... next thing I know it's 9:45pm and hubs in bed w/o me. Where do the evenings go? :(
Great outfit. You look so classy!
Oh yes I totally understand those kind of evenings!
You look fabulous
sometimes that happens...i'll admit it. but it doesn't last long because i usually notice a pout perching on those lips of his if i don't kiss him soon enough.
You make short girls like me unafraid to wear a maxi dress - and as it so happens, I am today! And thanks for reminding everyone to turn off the auto pilot every now and again:)It's important.
And I'm starting to think yesterday was all about the mush because I had a similar experience...

Cheers to soggy vegetables!

Awesome outfit! I was wondering if your scarf is the oatmeal (off-white) one or the one that is more grey/green?
everything about your outfit screams classy. sophisticated. love it!
you always make me laugh, sydney, always. :))

whoa girl. you look amazing.
I get this. REALLY get this. Poor hubs sometimes comes home to a bomb that exploded, he never knows what's awaiting him. And I can be so quick to hand off the baby because frankly she's sick of me that we don't take the time to greet the hubs like we should. I need to be better at this because it's so important. Thanks for the reminder :)

First of all, I'm totally loving the black and white ensemble here. I love, love, love the stripes. It's a very sophisticated look (in my humble opinion). Second, my husband and I will start trying for a little one this summer. Once we have the baby, I worry about this exact issue you've mentioned in your post. How will we keep our affection for one another from dwindling as the baby takes center stage? It's going to require a lot of effort, it seems. Third, your baby sounds so adorable and cute!
If you shower, cook anything edible, and take good care of a baby, I call that a successful day! I wouldn't say life with a kid gets easier, you just get used to chaos and non-gourmet dinners :)
Love this outfit, I wish I could pull off a long skirt!
This is my story of yesterday/last night, you pretty much summed it up!! Poor hubby's...
I just bought the shirt you are wearing this past weekend from GAP! SO soft and versatile!
I totally understand. And love the outfit!

you are just too funny girl. and i definitely know what you mean. sometimes i'm too wrapped up in being the perfect housewife and working on the "not so fabulous" dinner and completely forget about the person that i'm doing it for. i can't imagine adding baby to the mix just yet, then the poor guy will never stand a chance with me.

Yes! I know that feeling - minus the added beautiful baby. I don't know how I'll ever be able to balance a baby in the picture in a few years! Your an inspiration! And p.s. I LOVE that outfit! SOOO much!

You look amazingly beautiful.
Glad you got at least 10 seconds of mushy! You look lovely!
Yes. I have been there, more then sometimes!! Don't you stress your tiny tush over it too much. You have LOTS on your plate--other then scary veggies ;) You seem to rock at everything so you will get the swing of things real soon.
God definitely had a plan when he designed a man and woman to parent together. Thank goodness for good men. Now if we could have done something about the 5:00 dinnertime and baby's favorite time of day to cry...that would have been more helpful--IMO.
i adore this outfit!! it's lovely!!! and i don't have a baby but I have school and a job and i totally know how you feel!!!!
