new years at the cabin

Thursday, January 5

This year for New Years Eve we went down to Laurel Springs, NC and stayed with my family at this charming cabin. I hate to admit it, but it may or may not have made me re-think my city-girl-at-heart ways.
There was hot chocolate and whipped cream by the fire
 and naps
We drove into town and explored musty used book stores. Where husband read me his favorite Edgar Allan Poe poem. Wait ... he did what?
Then we went to the movies at a rusty old theater that still had some small remains of Christmas cheer.
My little brother went around with my camera taking extra flattering close-up shots of the family
And I experienced reading a book with TWO hands. Oh, the luxury of turning the page with that other hand!
Also, my sisters are no longer lipstick virgins. NARS Heat Wave and I took care of that.
My sister and her husband attempted the Tina Fey look
And also the cute look. Which they've mastered. Obviously.
My mom perfected her grandma skills
and we went on walks in the middle of nowhere wonderfulness
My other sister, the rugby champion of the world, taught us how to play the game. And throw that particularly large rugby ball.
which of course I proceeded to do awkwardly
We had a lot of bacon
and spent time sitting in the front porch rocking chairs because it was 50 DEGREES and sunny.
Also. There were new year's kisses at midnight.
Now. Who wants to sell me a cabin?

-------------------------------------------------------
P.S. Awkward and Awesome Thursday will finally be returning next week. Shocker, I know.

What a great way to start my morning. Love reading about your adventures. Beautiful family.

January 05, 2012 5:41 AM

Where are all of your baby legs from? I'm having a boy in 9 weeks and everything I see looks so girly!

January 05, 2012 5:49 AM

wow!!! you mum lokks more like your sister! she is so young and pretty :-))))
that cabin is amazing and no wondering you felt something for that place. Perfect balance will be to live close to the city to be able to easily and quickly reach it and not that close to feel like in the countryside.

wow, this looks like utter perfection! you should really get an ipad - would cure that need for a second hand while reading thing :) I've heard it's great for when you have little ones and you've only got one hand free! I love mine!

January 05, 2012 5:58 AM

Ah, I want to go away with my family like that!!! (And have someone teach me to play rugby!)

January 05, 2012 6:00 AM

I don't know if you ever respond to e-mails, but I figured I'd reach out and ask where that cabin is in Laurel Springs. I recently moved to NC from CA and am still exploring the area. Anyhow, my parents LOVE to rent cabins and this one is fairly close to where I live and I know my family would enjoy it. If you get a chance, please help a girl out! Thanks :)

We do a cabin getaway every year locally, and it is so fun to discover quaint little towns. I do think for a few minutes that I would enjoy the country, but I really do like my city conveniences. LOVE so many pics, mostly grandma and baby, the bacon, and the tina fey hands is creepy...on her book, too.
