mama's boy

Friday, January 27

Excuse my absence yesterday. I spent it in bed with my little man, reading books and talking. Absolutely nothing got done and it was marvelous.
Anywhoo.
We're noticing a little shift around here in this little guy's personality. Since he was born, Everett hasn't really ever shown a preference for who's holding him. When fed and comfy, he's cuddled us equally and smiled at us both whenever the mood happens to strike. Then this week happened {week 12}, and suddenly he's starting to show a bit more preference for mama. {By way of his tremendous vocal chords, which have officially made their presence known. Welcome, you piercing things you} And it's a strange feeling. On one hand, it's a little sad because Tys loves holding his little boy more than anything {plus he's amazing with him on a level that I wasn't expecting at all}. On the other hand, it is crazy rewarding that this little tiny person who has stolen my heart wants ME. He's fed and changed and warm but he's still crying because he wants to be with me and look at my face and hear my voice. And try as I might, I can't describe with words how incredible that makes me feel. But it does put this uncomfortable little lump in my throat that threatens to simultaneously push wet stuff out of my eyes.
Will I ever not be one big ball of mush?

Lovely post. What a wonderful tribute to motherhood. He looks so much like your husband in that picture!

January 27, 2012 8:26 AM

Sweet post! Little boys love their mommys thats for sure!! (must be the boobies) How could you not be a ball of mush with that sweet little face?!?!

January 27, 2012 8:27 AM

Owen is the same way. he gets super excited when Daddy comes home from work, but once we're all here and settled in, he wants his mama. i think it's because i'm home with him all day, and he's used to me as his primary care-giver.

January 27, 2012 8:28 AM

that is my favorite part of motherhood. as much i hate hearing my kids bonk their heads or see them scrape their knees, i love when they look to me as if i am the only person in the world that can make things better, happier again. enjoy little everett.

January 27, 2012 8:30 AM

aw how can you not be one big ball of mush seeing that cute face 24/7. He melts my little heart!

Oh how I can relate to this sweet post when I had my little girl's!!! Oh I miss when they were little babies! Baby E is the cutiest lil baby boy ever! It is perfectly okay for him to want his Mama all the time... Enjoy every moment Syd!

January 27, 2012 8:44 AM

It's hard to see the disappointment that it sometimes brings the daddy as mommy is usually the number one pick. I try to remind my husband that if his body produced milk he would have more of a fair chance:) And although most of the time he wished the little one would maybe choose him first over me, there are the times he is sure glad things are the way they are. Like when a sick kid is puking all night. Or there was an accident of #2 during potty training. Then he is sure glad the little one is reaching for me.

January 27, 2012 8:47 AM

Nope. :) There is always something special between a Mama and their little boys. Once E gets about 2 1/2 or so he will begin the switch to Daddy for most other things, but you'll always get more snuggles!! And we wouldn't have it any other way!!

January 27, 2012 8:48 AM

such a nice post! he looks so much like Ty in this photo :)

Happy Friday!

Yea, I think the ball of mush is a permanent fixture for us mothers. My little boy did the same thing but then I've learned one moment he is all about momma and the next moment he is his fathers best friend!

Hehe. Sorry to disappoint you, but you are going to be an emotional ball of mush from now on. And doesn't it feel good to experience a love as strong as this? I still can sit in wonder now and then about this overwhelming feeling that entered my life years ago. It's beautiful.

Enjoy that little guy, he looks adorable :)

January 27, 2012 8:55 AM

little Ty with your blue eyes. Tooo cute for words.

Motherhood sounds too mushy. I'm so not ready for that. I'd keep admiring from a DISTANCE. a big one.

You will forever be one big ball of mush! Thats how I ended up with 4. Each one gets a little older and you miss that baby stage. Thank goodness boys always want to love on their mamas no matter what age they are:)

Even though my two are older, it still feels awesome when they just want mom around.
Could Everett be anymore adorable???

January 27, 2012 9:18 AM

Awww he is so cute!! And sadly, no, the ball of mush feeling never goes away. Wait til he goes to school. Every motherly instinct in your body screams NO. And the hubby is trying to hold you back from calling the school.. just to make sure they're safe. Yep. That's a true story!

Sydney - he's adorable! I had a little baby boy Bryan just a couple weeks before you (he's 14 weeks now - whoa!). Love your blog and your mommy style. BTW, I'm having a little bloggers challenge on my blog to create a fun back to work outfit for mama (me!). I'd love you to participate. www.nesteaglerock.com. this is so sweet, i remember how uncomfortable it is. i basically fell in love with my husband all over again when he massively exceeded my expectations of him as a father. in a couple months that baby will notice schedules, and that daddy is gone all day and you will be sad, like me, when he shows more excitement when daddy comes home than any other part of the day.

The answer is NO. You will NEVER NOT be a huge ball of mush! NEVER. Even today, 2 years later, I'm still a weepy mess when I think of my son. Such an angel that boy is! Soak it in. Boys LOVE their mommas!

January 27, 2012 12:31 PM

never. mine is 45 weeks (10 mos) and still get a little bit weepy whenever I think about how much i LOVE him.

January 27, 2012 12:33 PM
