121 mama beauty

Getting ready these days sometimes means throwing on a favorite sweatshirt and brushing my teeth. Other days, it means putting on a little lipstick and a pretty top. Motherhood can be a strange personal transformation. Sometimes I feel like a complete baggy-eyed zombie and other times I feel unexpectedly more feminine and womanly than I ever have before. Right now, these few items are my favorite for taking five minutes during nap time to embrace motherhood and the rest of life with my best foot forward.

one:: L'Occitane pure shea butter:: I swear by this stuff. During my pregnancy I used it every day to prevent itchiness and stretch marks and now continue to use it every night on my dry winter lips.

two:: Chanel Chance:: Tys got this for me two Christmases ago. It's my absolute favorite {so I try to use it sparingly} and smells amazing

three:: Revlon Grow Luscious mascara:: really great for making my barely there lashes look thick

four:: Dream Mouse Blush:: love this stuff cause it creates such a light peachy sheen

five:: Sephora highlighter:: for the top of my non-existent cheekbones

six:: Bare Minerals foundation and brush:: good for your skin, looks natural, takes two seconds to put on

seven:: Korres Lip Butter in jasmine:: for non-lipstick days; super moisturizing and just the right pink tint

eight:: Nars Heat Wave:: this is my absolute favorite lipstick. I consider it to be even better than my old go-to MAC Ruby Woo, which is saying something.

I think I need to buy some red lipstick. Maybe it would help with the winter blues.

I´m the biggest fan of the Karité Shea Butter from
L´Occitane! I also love Chanel Chance parfume and the Red Nars lipstick, great choices!

I like such kind of posts. Thank you :) I want to try L'Occitane pure shea butter, because my lips in winter are too dry :( ...and I've not found "my lips" product yet

These are great staples not only for new moms (and all moms for that matter) but for us crazy working gals too. Love this post and I'll check out that Nars lipstick. I love Korres everything. ev.ery.thing.

These are some awesome beauty tips Sydney! I'm definitely going to be trying out that shea butter (and nice to know for the future that you used it to prevent the itching and stretchmarks during pregnancy!). And, I've been wanting to purchase some of that lipstick! Good think my birthday is coming up, hopefully I can point a few of these beauty products out to hubby :)

I completely agree. Its an ever changing experience but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I have never felt more beautiful than after becoming a mother. Funny how that works!

I've been hearing a lot about NARS heat wave. I'm thinking of buying it soon. :)

awww! I really love your blog and the way you describe your 'adventures'.

I love to see the confidence behind the outfits and photos you show. Just love it.

You're gorgeous and you have a gorgeous family.

Congrats :)*

Being a mother really makes me feel beautiful too. Also, I've never tried a mouse blush, but I'm tempted to now- I feel like powders end up wearing off or looking cakey

Your makeup routine looks very similar to mine! I love the Chanel but I use it sparingly as well...it is such a great scent!

Thanks for sharing! You are so lucky that you can use so few products and end up looking more fabulous that others who use a ton of different products. Did the Shea butter really help you prevent stretch marks? My sister used cocoa butter durin her entire pregnancy and ended up with a bunch of stretch marks anyways

Supal January 17, 2012 7:28 AM

We use 5 of the same products! The L'Occitane Shea Butter is truly heaven. I keep one in my purses bc I honestly can't live without it. Their salves are also phenomenal, you need to try those if you havent!

Anna Louisa January 17, 2012 7:39 AM

I'm already a huge fan of a few of these, and want to try out the rest! Motherhood isn't looking like a part of my immediate future but I do have at least a few out-of-state trips coming up next month and this looks like it would work just as well as a travel regimen! So thanks :)

Just wanted to say thanks. :)

isn't Mama Hood strange that way? I also use bare minerals. It's the only reason I was able to come up with a three minute beauty routine in the morning. (outside of the face washing and teeth brushing)

But I'm totally going to try the Cocoa butter you use and see how it works so thank you!

Dear Sydney,
I would like to wish you, first of all, the greatest year, since so many of your dreams are about to come true and I truly wish you the best, eventhough I do not know you in person; but I guess that when a person decides to share a bit of her life with total strangers, and those on the other side decide to follow those flashes willingly, effortlessly and eagerly we kind of become friends. I´m from Portugal, I do not post very often but I follow your blog daily, anticipating with excitment what the news are going to be this time, never disappointing and always revigorated and inspired. Secondly I’d like to thank you for letting a door open for us, so that we could appreciate the way you’ve evolved into someone so inspiring, so creative, so meticulous, so spontaneous, but above all, so genuinely true to yourself. Thank you, for I have also grown with you. I’ll keep on coming here, visiting you, hoping that if you come to my country one day, I’ll have the pleasure of welcoming you personally, opening then the doors of my house to you and hoping that you’ll feel at ease, just like I do, everytime I come to your blog. Cheers to you doll! Keep on being very Happy!

Hi Sydney, I love following your blog! I had my first baby, also a boy, about a month after you. I absolutely agree with the bare minerals and the mousse blush - they make me feel glamorous in about 5 minutes! I have recently added lipstick to my makeup collection and am loving it! Is there a drugstore brand that you like, and is there a drugstore red that is comparable to your Nars lipstick?

LaynahRose January 17, 2012 4:06 PM

I totally relate to this post! And did a similar post when my baby girl was fairly new. As a new mama my skin is more radiant than ever- I think it's from not putting a full face of makeup on every day from work. And my hair (what's left of it post pregnancy) is as healthy as it's ever been because I rarely bust out the blowdryer because of nap time. There's trade offs. It's hard not to just lounge around in PJs all day, but I figure it's probably nice for husband to come home and see you actually tried that day. So I TRY. :)
