101 Awkward and Awesome Thursday!
Shoes: Nine West Martina, Skirt: F21, Top: c/o Chicwish Necklace: Kohls, Jacket: c/o Hatch Collection, Lipstick: NARS Heatwave
Awkward:- Going to the gym with a friend who knows her way around the equipment, when I definitely do not. WHY WON'T IT PULL DOWN? Oh because you're backwards Syd... again. And the front desk staff laughs.
- Stretching my body to max capacity at a stoplight, trying desperately to stay buckled, with one eye on the light while retrieving a pacifier for a sad Mister Everett that has somehow fallen again into the dark recesses of the binky-eating abyss that is my back seat.
- Slip-sliding my car over a fresh dirty diaper in the Babies R Us parking lot. While I do understand the abomination that is a dirty diaper remaining in your car ... the parking lot people?
- That moment when another driver dangerously comes into your lane without checking his blind spot and your motherly instinct rants and rages at the man, "Don't you know there's a baby in this car?! Look at me you turd! I'm shaking my fist at you and shooting fire with my eyes!" But he doesn't look. Doesn't even give you the satisfaction of noticing what he did. And you're left sitting there talking to yourself.
- A post-baby bladder that does NOT mess around. Definately TMI, but it's not called awkward for nothin' people.
Awesome:
- Coming into the room in the morning and being met with a smiling baby face. He knows me!
- Running to the grocery store for some baby Orajel ... looking like a hot mess {that's an understatement} and actually not running into anyone I know. This. Does. Not. Happen.
- POM Wonderful. Best grocery store impulse buy I've ever had
- The way Tys lights up and kisses me and sings my praises when what I made for dinner really hits the spot. This should give you a clue as to how often my dinners actually do that.
- The microscopic fuzz on the top of Everett's bald head that I can spike with baby lotion. Also, I'm pretty sure when he actually DOES have hair ... it's not getting cut for a very. long. time.
- Everett's face and cherry flavored Orajel. That is NOT milk mama!
- And congrats Baked and Wired, you have officially created the best cup of hot chocolate in the world!

Oh Bladders are my biz. And I never escape the grocery store without running into someone I know. LUCKY.
Love that top! You look adorable! And I hate going to the gym with people who are intense about working out. makes me feel so ashamed lol.

i also, shoot fire from my eyes at dangerous drivers daily only to have them not notice me. it's truly a disgrace.
I may not be a mama yet, but I definitely have had some grocery-store-weakness moments. Posted my first awkward and awesome today! Thanks for another great Thursday read :)
I love your one about the Orajel! My brother when he was a baby did the same exact look, it's awesome haha! You look amazing post baby!

Try this for teething. The brand is called 0-9. It's homeopathic & it's the only thing that worked for Mase. You can find it at babies r us.
Good luck!
I'm loving to read you. It inspires me a lot...:)
So sweet! I love that he smiles when you come in the room :) and that he's got a little peach fuzz!
PIECE OF CAKE. PEACE OF MIND.
I did the same thing with Joseph's hair until someone commented on what a cute girl I had. Not! The cute curls had to go.
Your blog has truly become one of the highlights of my morning routine! So funny! Thanks for that!

love that skirt- you look so elegant! and POM is the bomb.
diaper in the parking lot...major no-no.
oh man, that post baby bladder. It's even worse than pregnancy bladder!
And I cried the first time I cut my little guy's hair into a big boy haircut {and we're not talking 6 months or something, he was 2.5 years. it was high time to say goodbye to the baby hair, but it still wasn't easy to let go of the baby hair...}
Haha Sydney, you're "Awkward and Awesome" posts are always the BEST! They make me laugh. :)
Sam
You need a "wubbanub" for baby Everett. They're amazing. It's a pacifier with a little animal attached to it and they don't get lost everytime a baby drops their pacifier. My nephew has one and it has to be the greatest thing ever. Not to mention how cute they look using a pacifier with an animal hanging off of it. They're in some stores, but I bought my nephews online at wubbanub.com
Um, post-baby bladder...no bueno. I've had four and it's just not fun. Hang in there though...it improves. :)

I love your thursdays :) they are so cute and interesting.
ps. your shoes are so cute!
Haircuts are traumatic for me and my son...and he's 2... They look SO OLD when they get it cut and I feel like crying. hahaha
Haha, you always crack me up!

Hi Syd! Looking for teething relief? We swear by Hyland's Homeopathic Teething Tablets - you can find them at the grocery store in the pharmacy. They worked great for both of our kiddos!
haha awh, I do love these posts! Favorite- cherry orajel and Ev's face :) so so so precious!
Lovely Little Rants
I can pretty much sympathize with the running into the grocery store/meet someone I know every time. My town is about 6000 people: the Walmart is the local hangout: you get seen no matter WHAT. Hot mess, or lookin' hot. :D
Baked and wired is one of my fav DC spots!
I enjoyed your awkward/awesome posts before and now being a new mama myself, I love them even more because I can SO relate!!!
As always, LOVE your akward and awesome Thursdays!
lovely pattern!

I know the stretching-your-body-to-the-max-to-find-baby's-paci while at a stoplight (or driving) act. Its nuts, but anything to keep a fussy baby quiet, right? As a new mom myself, this little gem has come in so handy in so many situations because it doesn't fall into the paci-eating abyss: http://www.wubbanub.com/ There's an alternative pacifier style, depending on what your little man takes, called Pacimal.
Also, there is a homeopathic teething remedy brand called Hylands. They have these little "tablets" that do wonders for my 6 month old. The key ingredient here...chamomile! Check 'em out: http://www.hylands.com/products/teething.php
Beautiful outfit as always.. I am kinda in love with your top! And I LOVE POM, and those glorious (though rare) times when I really DON'T run into anyone I know when I'm having One Of Those Days. xo
http://dreamingenfrancais.blogspot.com
My husband had someone do the same thing to him while he was driving yesterday. It amazes me that people don't look. I guess they just assume that if someone is there they'll get out of the way.
i can't wait for my baby to smile at me when he sees me!!!
I'm sure I'll be experiencing some similar mommy moments in about 5 months when my first bundle of joy arrives. Can't wait! You crack me up, Syd.

Love this ladylike outfit! I agree, cooking a meal that my husband goes bananas over makes my heart smile :)
Hahaha, this is alllll awesome!

Too funny! I can definitely relate to the mom-with-road-rage episodes. My son's 16 and I still get mad at other drivers!!
Early teethers are trying but man is it nice when they can eat real food. My oldest had 4 teeth by 4 months!
Love this!
Have a nice awkward and awesome Thursday evening!

HAHA! I did read your tweet about the grocery store. So glad you didn't end up seeing anyone :)

Navigating the gym can be hard! Good for you for trying. I usually go like three times and wander around slowly, as to get my bearings straight. But once you master it - that gym all yours! :)
I love hearing about sweet baby everett :) congrats
Your 'Awkward and Awesome Thursday's' are just the medicine to get me through to Friday! You're a doll!

you are such a hot mama!
xoxo the egg out west.
Eww someone left their kid's dirty diaper in the parking lot? Not cool.
btw, I'm having a giveaway at my blog- there are some pretty cute baby things!! :)
Well I love both your Awkward and Awesome, and love that you take the time to tell us. :)
I am going to change you life right now. If Everett is teething try Teething Tablets. They are little tablets that quickly dissolve in his mouth. They work almost instantly and are AMAZING! They are a homeopathic thing, and they are safe. My little girl started teething at 3 months (!) but didn't actually get any teeth until right after she turned one! Poor thing :( Her little gums would get all red and irritated. Teething tablets were the best things we found!
I never, ever try to give my sad Ryan his binky back while we're in the car. Last time someone attempted that in my general presence, she rear ended me at a stop light. Now THAT'S awkward! :)
Get a pacifier clip for his carseat/clothes. They help out so much in the car and when he's in the stroller or store they don't fall on the floor and get dirty.
I also recommend the teething tablets that someone else suggested. They work miracles and are all natural so you don't have to worry about using them too often.
I'm sure you look this good 100% of the time. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. How do you manage to walk in heels on DC streets? I remember them being so "cobbly" sigh*

dear sweet little sydney
this last week i read your whole blog from the beginning, because i wanted to know the origin of this little place. i liked what i read, the evolution of the blog, the stories, yourself... and i congratulate you for your work, for being so honest in sharing your life and for being so cute in such a natural way! i love your tiny everett and i'm planning how to get to the states so i can squeeze that little face of his.
xo,
irene
ps. i know this has nothing to do with this post but i felt i wanted to tell you!
I was going to say "wubanub", as someone suggested above. Then you can stick the 2 front legs under the carseat strap at their chest, above the click lock thingy, and tighten up your baby as usual. This makes it a lot easier when you stretch because the pacifier is still there, just pop it back in their mouth. This works at least until they are strong enough to pull the wubanub from out of the carseat straps.
You look fab mama! Haha, I am totally the same way using the equipment at the gym...who knows how to use that stuff?!
Awkward yet AWESOME... http://mallorieowens.blogspot.com/2012/01/awkward-yet-awesome.html
And that is why I dont go to the gym! p.s. love your skirt!
i agree with the first comment - just once, i'd like to run into someone i know when i look like a supermodel. or, just once i'd like to look like a supermodel.
i just have to say, you are one of my FAVES!
you and your posts are just so precious!!
You guys...just so C.U.T.E!
New follower, and I am completely smitten! How fun to read about you finding your inner mama bear- Everett is one lucky kid!
Awkward: Traipsing around the back yard while your husband makes fun of you whilst taking your picture.
Awesome: Finally getting the nerve to do your first ever outfit post.

Love these! Although, you might wanna be careful with the orajel. There are new studies that recently came out about risky side effects.
As always, I love Awkward and Awesome Thursdays. Today on my blog I shared some of my own awkwardness in the form of an embarrassing moment from high school.
lifeisnotadressreheasal.blogspot.com
When I go to the gym with my husband, sometimes he will take me around to all those muscle machines. I am then stared at by all the other boys there as he explains step-by-step what I need to do..."Um...can I go back to the treadmills now?"
Also, I adore Everett's little perfectly bald head! He looks so good in it!
xo Taylor
Running in to people when I look terrible, somehow always seems to happen, question is where are you when I'm looking all fab! Never happens! Darn!
You look lovely as always and I love awkward and awesome thursday!

oh gosh, it's just the worst when someone cuts you off and doesn't even notice and still you sit in your car all upset about it. i just try to really calm myself down and say if they don't care i'm not going to care and waste my time thinking about "said person". ha
xo TJ
I am the same way at the gym, hah.
My 'awkwards' always seem to outnumber my awesomes. Guess that says something about my life!
Haha your so funny! I always love coming home from work and reading your funny story's!

Your posts always make me smile :)
I love every piece of this outfit...especially the top and the skirt!
I love the way you layer your outfits. I've been trying to take notes to expand my wardrobe. You're just great at it!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! seeing the way people style animal print shoes. You look great!
Speaking of awkward gym moments... I was using this leg equipment one time and I thought I was doing awesome! Then a guy got on after me and I realize I had been doing it TOTALLY wrong. I felt like an idiot! haha.
-april.
POM Wonderful is my favorite thing ever! I put it in everything. It's amazing. I love it mixed with ginger ale. But my favorite is making it into a salad dressing. It is even easy enough for someone that isn't big on the whole cooking thing!
Take a mason jar, add about a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar, a tablespoon of POM, and about a cup of olive oil. Add a bit of salt and pepper, put on the lid and shake (over the sink in case it leaks.) Its delicious just like that, but you can also add orange juice, mustard, or honey.
Oh my goodness Bakes & Wired is AMAZING! I swear I've tried almost every cupcakerie in D.C. and they're by far the best, and the most fun, and they definitely do have the best h.c.! Mmmm...I only get to visit D.C. a few times a year because I have family there, but I so wish I lived there and could pop in any old time. Like right now.
I love that coat! The Awkward and Awesomes were hilarious!

Just wanted to echo what some other commenters have said. You need a Wubbanub for Everett. It's the only way I can keep track of my three month old's pacifier. And as a bonus, they are super cute!
