Wedding Day
Birthing Day
Birthing Day
It is so exciting to realize that.
For me there is this sacred time between birth and 'going home from the hospital day' that is so precious, just me and my babe. Initially there is a rush feeling of, 'Oh yes, I know you. I've been waiting for you, I forgot how much you complete me.' Then, we will stare and stare for hours. Inventory is taken, skin to skin naps and quiet time are enjoyed. We are still one, me and babe. We are still occupying the same space and breath. Some of the happiest and best times of my whole life is that precious little fleeting moment. Then I am home, back to my routine. Of course the feelings and wonder are still there, but the children are growing and carving out their own little piece of space and breath. Naturally they are moving away as their need for breathing and space expands. They are still within arms length, which is where I hope they stay, but still they are growing away from me and with pride and a twinge of sadness I am watching them go.

Taking home baby is also one of my best days... I will always remember him in his car seat looking so tiny and in so much need of protection. He is 5 now, and can do pretty much "everything" (as he likes to say) on his own. I tell him every night at bedtime, "I love you. It doesn't matter how big you get, you'll always be my baby boy." He laughs and tells me, "Mom, you know I love you? To the moon & the stars, to the sun, and even to Jupiter, and back." (another of my best times in my life... bedtime:) Will for sure check out her blog & follow! :)

This is so sweet. As a mother of 2 little girls I couldn;t agree more. I'll never forget those first days after giving birth. Thank you for putting those feelings into words :)
Your wedding day trumps giving birth to your children?
This made me a little emotional thinking about the future and those days I hopefully have ahead of me.

Great post! I totally get it and miss those days sometimes, so much! I love watching my kids grow and change. I love our family as my kids are maturing but I do miss the pregnancy, hospital, to going home days as well.
Thanks for sharing. I've had my wedding day, but I have yet to experience the birth of any children. Can't wait though!

@Pamela, she said the most FUN days in order were 1. Wedding day and then birthing days. Birthing days are great but parts of them aren't much fun. I can see where she is coming from. :)
I love the skin on skin nap times. And yes, watching them grow is bitter sweet. thanks for the guest post.
Somehow you managed to perfectly describe those sacred and fleeting moments. Beautiful post. :)
funny how when we were at the hospital i just wanted to come home and then when we got home i cried for days about how sweet our time at the hospital was.
Susan, this was beautiful and so true. I love the time we shared alone in the hospital and cherish it because I knew it wouldn't last. At night was especially the best time for me because it would be so quite for me and baby. Great post!
Well said! Made me tear up.
This made me teary-eyed. Beautiful!
oh i CANNOT wait to experience this myself :) you've gotten me excited, girl! Lord willing, it'll happen after i get married.
Oh wow, that's exactly how it feels. Beautifully said.
