10 things

Thursday, November 10

1. I'm willing to sweat it out in a warmer-than-normal house just so I can leave him in a diaper and blankets. I can't get enough of his baby skin. And his finger toes. And the blonde peach fuzz that covers his shoulders. It would be a dang crime to cover that up.
2. Breastfeeding has not been the easiest thing in the world. The first week hurt. A lot. But oh when we get it right, it's the sweetest moment. I would do anything for those happy grunts.
3. It's a little embarrassing how much Tys and I refer to ourselves in the third person as "mama and daddy".  But it's kind of our favorite role.
4. Sometimes when Tys is upstairs with Everett, I'll hear him burst out laughing. I'll ask what happened and he'll say, "He just peed all over everything! Again!" Nothing phases him. He loves that little boy. And woah, I love him.
5. I remember the first time we pulled out our newborn diapers. I couldn't wait to show Tys cause I couldn't believe how tiny they were. I thought, there is NO WAY a little bum is going to fit into these. And now they look huge on him. Can he please be this small forever?
6. Showers are a very necessary and very beautiful thing. Thank you husband for making sure I still get a little me time every day.
7. It's amazing how little sleep you actually need to survive.
8. Yes, your hair falls out. No, I didnt think it was possible for these locks to get any thinner. But indeed, they are proving me wrong at an alarming rate.
9. Who cares. I have a baby.
10. One-handed, left-handed typing? It's kind of my thing now.

babes grow so fast it hurts. my niece and nephew are 5 months old and are almost 20lbs each but it still feels like they were born like a week ago. and they're not even mine!

you're a precious mama and the love you have for your little man (and big man, too!) just radiates from the computer screen. oh and that last picture? couldn't get much more cute.

mama you look amazing! breastfeeding is the worst/most beautiful thing on earth. i had a love hate relationship those first few weeks! but the pain, oh the pain, had it not been for nipple cream and nipple covers i don't think i would have survived the first week....enjoy it mama, it's heart crushing sometimes when you know you'll never do it again (my boy is almost 2 and bf-ing is alllllll over with).

Your hair shouldn't be falling out yet! Are you still taking your prenatal vitamins? You should be if you are breastfeeding.

For the peeing, dedicate a burp cloth to cover his willy when you are changing him. We haven't had a pee accident since we started doing that.

I still crack up every time we change a diaper and then J immediately poos in the new one. What a little stinker. Just likes to poop in a fresh diaper!

I loved this post! All things sooo true! Especially the hair falling out part for me! Hopefully your 'hair falling out' phase doesn't last as long as mine did (both times)! Enjoy every moment... it really does fly by! You have a beautiful family!

Oh, and my husband and I, still 3 1/2 years after becoming parents, refer to ourselves as mom(my) and dad(dy). The only time it gets tricky is at holidays or family events and your around your family and your own parents start responding when you yell out "Hey, daddy....!" haha :)

Joanna said...

Yes showers are necessary! Thank God for Husbands! And breastfeeding hurt me for the first month - so engorged, blocked ducts because she wasn't emptying them, and very sore nipples...but once that all passed (and it did) it was so easy and convenient and let's not forget, the best thing for my baby!

Glad you're doing well!

This is such a beautiful picture. This list is great and will be awesome to look back at in a few months...the newborn stage FLIES by so continue to soak it all up! You're going to be an amazing mama (and the breast feeding get's easier).

This post made me smile, my little girl is one now and it's amazing how quickly you forget all the little things from the first few weeks. Breastfeeding is hard, and painful but if you stick it out the first six weeks it will seem like a distant memory when baby (and you) become pro's, and six weeks will go by so fast...I promise! Can't wait to her the birth story :)

I blogged and took tons of pictures throughout my motherhood (almost 3 years ha) and still have a hard time believing how tiny they were. Even my youngest 20 month old boy, who is a godzilla/cuddlebug/heartbreaker, Was he really a tiny newborn just last year??? All the tiredness and being drunk on love kind of made me forget what it felt like even though I have all the pictures. I think that's where the baby hungryness comes from because I am feeling it. So enjoy the tiny-ness :)

I am so excited for you!! You seem like you are just the cutest mom on the planet. My husband and I have been married for 5 years and I've been unable to have kids. Love reading this, brings back happy memories of when my guy was tiny. I had a hard time with the breast feeding for the first couple of weeks, it really hurt! But it definitely gets better, hang in there!

Jennifer said...

This is so darn sweet! :)

Who is G? said...

Oh yeah...breastfeeding can kill the first little while, and can be super awkward at first, but you'll catch on and it'll be the best thing ever. You'll love that time with your baby! The hair thing stops after awhile too. Sounds like you're living it up as a new momma and you should...it's the greatest thing in the world! and b.t.w...you look really great after just having a baby.

Ace said...

I am so blessed by you! We are expecting our first in May and I have loved following along with your pregnancy :)

Jessica said...

Breastfeeding gets so much easier so don't give up is what I always tell people. My first son chewed my nipples off pretty much...nipple cream, sheilds, gel packs, you name it i tried it...they bled, he would still nurse but then he was a vomitter to make it worse so he would throw up with the blood..It freaked me out...I felt like giving up but never did and eventually it went away and healed and it was easy and perfect...
The best thing for sore nipples though i have to say is expressing a little breast milk and letting it dry on your nipple!
Don't worry, and trust me it gets so much easier!!
My second son is now 3 weeks old and in a size 1-2 diapers! I don't think he ever wore a Newborn size:)
E is adorable, your doing great! Congrats to your family again!

Tiffany said...

Your hair is falling out already?! Mine didn't start happening (with both) until about 3 months pp. And, unfortunately the majority of it feel out in two specific spots, one being one side of my bangs (you can imagine how wonderful it is to have that half of my bangs be two-inch long baby hairs. The other spot was the left side at the nape of my neck. Now I've got a one sided mullet showing up unless I pull my hair top to that side. Sigh...so worth it though, and I'll do it again!

Thank you, so much for these awesome posts. I am so happy for you and your sweet little family. Enjoy every bit because they do grow up at an alarming rate. As a little girl waiting for all the big exciting moments of a year , I could't have ever imagined how fast the time really flies when you're having fun.

Love this post. Mike kept telling me when I bought way too many newborn clothes that I had bought way too many newborn clothes and Everett wouldn't fit in them more than a day, and I was like, yeah right. He fit in them for at least two weeks. Booyah, Mike.

Oh what a great list of wonderful things of your first days into motherhood!!

two things- I used to sleep SO MUCH and it also shocked me how little sleep I indeed needed to function properly!!

the other, the hair loss. My God.. I shed like crazy, 2 months after having my baby.. and all the way to 6 months!I'm actually worried about what's going to happen the next pregnancies!! huh?? what, what is going to happen to my hair??????

xoxo, Paula
