mister elephant called. he wants his ankles back

Friday, October 14

Boots: Unity from Famous Footwear, Leggings: Target, Top: c/o Threadcase, Vest: YesStyle, Watch: Gift Clutch: c/o Chicwish
Last night as my mom, Tys and I were stuffed in the love seat finishing up a movie, I so happened to prop my legs up in front of me and suddenly caught a glimpse of the ghastly, swollen, elephant-like things that are growing on what used to be my ankles. Holy. Disturbing. {I blame my masseuse. Pretty sure he released a bucket-load of toxins from my muscles yesterday. Those puppies were tight.} Today, I'm going to attempt to prop my legs up at least 3 feet above my head at all times and get them back to size. But we'll see how long that lasts. I think my laundry pile wants to eat me.

So what are you guys up to this weekend? We originally had plans to go to the pumpkin patch and pick ourselves out a nice mister Jack-O, but it's been super rainy. We might brave it and slop through in our rain boots, or we might stay home and give me and only me each other footrubs this weekend.
Things are getting super exciting around here, this last pregnancy stretch. Super. Exciting.

Water retention is one of those awesome things about pregnancy that everyone thinks won't happen to them, and of course it does. Like me, for instance, I transformed into Jabba the Hut with my first baby. It scared the heck out of my husband, although he won't admit it. Haha. You look fantastic, and a little swelling means you're almost done, yippee!

October 14, 2011 7:51 AM

Oh you poor thing! I can totally identify. When I was about to pop with my daughter, the doctor walked into the room, took one look at my ankles then said, "Wow! You're giving Fred Flintstone a run for his money!" Thanks, Doc.

I know what you mean about exciting days. I spend my entire day looking at blogs, watching Mad Men and Friday Night Lights, and eating. It sounds easy but it's ridiculous. Oh, and if I'm up past 9:30 it's a wild night. Pregnancy is grand.

October 14, 2011 7:57 AM

I took the red-eye megabus from DC to Tennessee, and my ankles were really swollen when I got off the bus this morning! My husband was scared I had some sort of thrombosis or something so he keeps calling to check on me and make sure I'm drinking water haha. I don't have pregnancy to blame my water retention on though!

October 14, 2011 8:03 AM

I think you should put on those cute green wellies and go get a pumpkin! Thats our plan... minus the wellies... its been a balmy 90ish degrees here in Cali.

October 14, 2011 8:04 AM

you poor sweet thing. Nothing special here, same things...

You look so great! Love those boots so much!

October 14, 2011 8:26 AM

Just so you know, you and your cuteness, are the reason I now own a fur vest. :)

October 14, 2011 8:33 AM

This outfit and that vest- amazing!

October 14, 2011 8:35 AM

Ah you look lovely, Sydney! Good luck with the pumpkins! Isn't it crazy that this time next year you'll be going with your own little punkin?!

October 14, 2011 8:36 AM

Cankles or no, you are a beautiful, stylish pregnant lady!

October 14, 2011 8:38 AM

Aw, I'm sorry! Swollen ankles do NOT sound fun. I'm terribly scared that one day when I get pregnant my ankles will swell and my feet will swell and my (very high) arches will drop and by the time I give birth my feet will have gotten significantly larger. Silly? Perhaps, LOL, but my mom's feet grew with every pregnancy and I have a ridiculous attachment to my small feet. <--- Totally realizing how absurd all this sounds, so I'll stop it right there. :D Changing subect: You look ADORABLE! Good luck with the home stretch!

October 14, 2011 9:17 AM

You look beautiful! I was so stoked when my feet and ankles didn't swell during my pregnancy, but boy was I surprised when they tripled in size after I had already given birth. Just when I thought I would start looking like a normally proportioned human too! It was a cruel surprise!

October 14, 2011 9:17 AM

This made me laugh out loud. Isn't it bazaar how only ankles swell sometimes? Jeesh. You do look beautiful and pregnant! You really are glowing, Syd!

Hey, at least your boots still fit!

Just wait until AFTER the baby comes...they may get even larger! Agh! In the hospital after baby comes, your ankles will swell up soooo bad! (Then all the retained water gets released through sweating to death every single night for a week! TMI? Well, it's not that glamorous, but I'm sure you are so excited... ;) ...For your little man to get here, that is!

October 18, 2011 12:14 PM

i think you look simply lovely

October 19, 2011 11:18 AM

I had a baby 2 1/2 weeks ago and have loved following your blog during our pregnancies! I found that the days that I was more active (like going for long walks), the less swollen I was. I think the activity helped to keep things flowing instead of settling in my ankles. Hope that helps these last few weeks!

October 24, 2011 7:54 PM

Just found your blog and I LOVE it. I am 21 weeks pregnant and absolutely want to raid your closet. Question: are the leggings you get from target in all your pictures from the maternity section or regular womens? I NEED them!!
