man up

Friday, October 7

Shoes:Vera Wang for Kohls, Jeggings: c/o Windsor Store, Top: Husbands H&M, Belt: Husbands UO, Watch: Gift, Sunnies: Target, Clutch: c/o Chicwish
Don't ask me why it's taken this long for me to raid Tys's closet. Who needs maternity when you have man stuff at your fingertips? Button-up and T-shirt HEAVEN. {Pretty soon, people won't even be able to tell us apart. Dream come true!} Actually, it's probably taken me this long cause I knew that if I wore his stuff, that would mean I would have to iron out all the 'tucked-in' wrinkles at the bottoms of his shirts. But who are we trying to kid here? I DON'T IRON! Wrinkles or no wrinkles, there is some good comfy junk in that closet people. Things are about to get a little more manly around here.

And P.S. to those of you who've asked: sorry, but besides wearing men's clothing ... I don't have any juicy maternity secrets to tell you. Everything that I wear is either low rise and really stretchy, has an elastic waist or is tied together with a rubber band. I've tried maternity pants, thought I liked them, but they kept sliding off my anti-butt so I took them back. And belly-bands ... I don't know why, but I just haven't had the desire to try them. Probably too preoccupied with all things that end in -eggings. It's a pregnancy love affair. But I promise that if between now and next month I find some secret clothing invention that blows my mommy mind, I'll be sure to share.

I have an anti-butt as well, and will start referring to it as such. I swear it's concave sometimes.

I love the envelope clutch!

I'm avoiding maternity clothes as much as I can too. My mom sent me a few things, which I love, but I'm going to go for using as much of what I already have and what my husband has. I'd save my pennies for all the things we'll need to buy for the baby!

Thank goodness my husband doesn't dress up for work (he's a mechanic) b/c I hate ironing dress clothes! My iron & ironing board are for sewing projects only. I'm envious that you can wear leggings every day of the week. The office I work in doesn't see them as "appropriate" and I was forced to buy uncomfortable maternity dress pants - ugh. I hate getting dressed in the morning! How many more weeks of this?!

Yeah, it's all about stretchy and low-rise. Pregnancy heaven! And post-pregnancy heaven too!

How do you get all your belts to stay put? I've been trying to rock a regular belt around my natural waist but have yet to find a way to tie/fasten it to make it stay and not look crazy. Thoughts?

TOTALLY hear you. I think I'm a week behind you, regardless, no maternity stores carry a decent size 0 for my petite but still prego body. But thank goodness for the "jegging" trend, almost every store has good denim jeggins in my size now! I use a hairband to loop my button too (: Last week I found a pair of thick jean jeggings at AE that will fit me in 8 more weeks as well!

I wish my hubby's sizes were closer to my own. I did however adopt a bowling shirt that was in our closet and too small for hubby. Not as a fashion statement, but out of necessity. Good luck with you in your final count down! I know I am frazzled and excited.

I had the same problem with maternity pants at first, but that was when I was wearing the silky kind of ummm... underwear. Then I tried the cotton-poly blend maternity bottoms and they were SO MUCH BETTER! I only have 2 pairs of maternity pants from Old Navy (for $15 a pair), and they are the kind with the low-rise band. At first I couldn't stand them because I was constantly having to pull them up, but once I tried the different underwear, the fabric band had more grip. I can still wear regular pants low if I want, but I like the maternity pants a lot more. After my pregnancy I think I might switch to cotton-poly bottoms forever because I've ALWAYS had the problem of pants slipping down my butt, especially every time I sit down and stand back up since I usually wear the Karanessa kind and they are more slippery. Anyway that's a lot of info but I just thought I'd let you know in case that might be your problem, too!

Raiding husband's closet is such a genius idea! I will defnitely be wearing his clothes by the end of this pregnancy!

So cute! And I'm with you on being anti-maternity pants. Using an elastic band to increase the waist is my trick.

There's something so awesome about wearing men's clothing. I'm so glad you discovered it!

I used my hubbys button down shirts while I stayed in the hospital. Not only were they more comfortable, easy to breastfeed, but I didn't look as dumpy as I would in a drab hospital gown. :)

I'm happy to know that I'm not the the only one with an anti-butt. I thought I would gain a little tushie with pregnancy, but alas, I did not. My husband jokes that if it weren't for my face he wouldn't know if I was facing forward or backward looking at my rear.... sad, very sad.

Ha Ha- When I was pregnant with my daughter I wore everything with a rubber band holding it together. My parents thought I was nuts!!!

Van @ The Clothes We Wear said...

I did not wear maternity clothes when pregnant with my son! Low rise denim worked for a long time and then I switched to leggings and dresses with tights. Besides, a few years ago, stylish maternity clothes was slim pickin's. Also, maternity pants were never that comfy to me, either--and I have a butt.

You look great in Tys' shirt. Love the top bun, too.

Terrie said...

I have an anti-butt too! But I had to have some jeans for this fall--my Old Navy maternity jeans seem to work well. Sometimes I have to pull them up, but the smooth panel helps. I also have some comfy twill trousers that I bought last year at Anthropologie with a knit waistband--perfect for maternity wear!

I'm going to raid my husband's button-downs now.

I'm on my third pregnancy, and am using the belly band for the first time, and I love it. They come in different colors so it just looks like your layering. It makes it so I can wear my pre-prego clothes the whole time and covers the fact that I can't do up my zipper. Something the a rubber band/hair tye could never hide for me.
