waiting

Monday, October 24

Baby is trying to decide if he wants to come out right now. I've been having painful contractions 5-7 minutes apart since Thursday night. What is that ... 80+ hours? But who's keeping track?
Needless to say I'm a bit wiped. With a heck of a lot more appreciation for women under my belt. Every mother on this earth is SUPER. WOMAN. Let's all cross our fingers that baby makes up his mind soon. Cause I am seriously considering breaking out the castor oil. And I never thought I'd say that.

My one year old just pointed to that belly picture and said "Mama, baby." Weird what little kids know. It'll be over soon dudette. Babies come out, Mama's regain control of their body, everyone is tired and everyone is happy. Soon that will be you. Tired, happy and holding your babe.

October 24, 2011 7:56 AM

You're in my thoughts! Baby will be here soon!

October 24, 2011 7:57 AM

You'll do great! And an almost sure fire way to get that going strong is some seriously cuddling, if you get my drift ;) Worked like a charm for me when I was ready to have my baby girl!

If you want that baby out...have sex!!! I dealt with contractions from a Friday evening to Sunday night and finally we had sex and boom...I was in full on painful labor and I had a baby soon after.

October 24, 2011 8:03 AM

My doctor told me sex does the trick. About to get nerdy here: I guess sex releases the hormones that start labor. It's better than castor oil! Good luck! That little guy will be here in no time!

October 24, 2011 8:03 AM

I have to agree with Kathryn :) It worked for all 3 of my kids! How many weeks are you?

October 24, 2011 8:04 AM

Good luck! Try to enjoy this last little bit with your hubby... there's no turning back. :)

October 24, 2011 8:09 AM

wee! Come on baby!
You've got this. Sending good vibes your way

October 24, 2011 8:11 AM

Ew. I've heard castor oil is disgusting, so let's all just pray for baby to come out soon and save you from the ickiness.
GO BABY!!

October 24, 2011 8:22 AM

October 24, 2011 8:24 AM

oh girl...so soon!!! I have loved seeing your journey and can't wait to meet the little man!!

October 24, 2011 8:24 AM

Can't wait!!!!

And i think i know what you're naming him :)

does castor oil really send you into labor?

praying for you!

October 24, 2011 8:25 AM

I'm the same way and contract for weeks before baby comes. Clary sage essential oil changed my life this last labor!! Went from a six to a baby in an hour. And when you're going natural.....the quicker the better!!!

Good luck!

eep! so exciting!

c'mon little man! get your cute little bum out here and greet us already!

October 24, 2011 8:30 AM

Same thing happened to me. Loads of contractions before active labor actually started. I decided to just go to the hospital and I got them to break my water to really get things going. After they broke my water, things picked up real fast. Good luck! Also, if you're not using contractionmaster.com, you should be!

October 24, 2011 8:31 AM

oh my gosh!! hang in there mama!! hope baby comes soon!!!! :D

October 24, 2011 8:34 AM

Oh darling! Do NOT use cator oil. :) It will just give you a different kind of cramps (if you know what I mean)and doesn't necessarily put you into labor. I speak from horrific experience.
You are super woman! You have been through this pregnancy with such grace, you make the rest of us look crazy!
Good luck!!

October 24, 2011 8:34 AM

wow, almost there I can't wait to see him.

October 24, 2011 8:35 AM

October 24, 2011 8:36 AM

October 24, 2011 8:36 AM

http://thebirthteacher.blogspot.com/2008/12/prodromal-labor.html

This sounds like what you might be going through... Though Annoying, these contractions are doing something! Getting that little baby closer to being born. So kick your feet up and practice your breathing :) I'm sure you are, anyway!

I did take the recommended castor oil dose out of the Hypnobirthing book with baby #2 about 12 hours before he was born- so I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but it happened! I even taped myself drinking it, because I thought it would be so comical, but it wasn't even that bad when mixed with OJ, and it's just like a tablespoon or something...Don't drink too much at once or you'll be sorry!!! Good luck, and keep listening to your Rainbow Relaxation.. The first time you really go into labor can be intense, because you've never felt anything like it, but if you can keep breathing, you can do it! I'm so happy for you :) :) Good luck!!

October 24, 2011 8:41 AM

After my daughter was 20 days late I broke out the castor oil. She was born within a day. Terribly nasty stuff though. I recommend mixing with a smoothie. You'll be a great mommy! XO

Good luck! I know nothing about childbirth, but I can safely assume that you are rather miserable right now. I can't wait to see that little baby! I'll be thinking good thoughts for both of you and your family.

October 24, 2011 8:45 AM

Best of luck and you're in my prayers today!

October 24, 2011 8:46 AM

Don't you still have 3-4 weeks until your due date? Your babe needs all the time you can give him with staying INSIDE your belly. No matter how uncomfortable you are. These last few weeks are the worst for you, but best for him! When you hit your due date, bust out the castor oil if you want, but before, no point.

October 24, 2011 8:53 AM

Eeeeew, castor oil is soooo gross. and it can make for a very gross (poopy!) labor. Fortunately, I know from a friend's experience and not my own:)
Don't do it!

October 24, 2011 8:56 AM

Oh gosh the excitement !!! Doesn't seem like two minutes ago that you announced the pregnancy :D how time flies !
I'm sure you guys will be a fabulous mommy and daddy to the little one and I'm sure he will be here before you know it. Keeping you guys in my thoughts xoxo

October 24, 2011 8:58 AM

Good luck with the contractions and labour if the little boy makes up his mind! Remember that you have the strength, courage and wisdom of whole womankind within you, and the love and good wishes of all of your friends, family and blog readers.
Enjoy!

October 24, 2011 8:59 AM

So awesome! You must be close!

I am 38 weeks and keep tricking myself into thinking today is the day (like, every day I think it will happen on THAT day). Other than some minor cramping from time to time, I really have nothing to go on!

October 24, 2011 9:00 AM

I'm so excited for you!!! What a wonderful part of life. (Believe me you'll think the same thing after it's all over!! I didn't when it was happening either!) You'll make it. You'll do great. And you'll be so happy you went natural! Congrats!! I'll be checking back soon to see if there are any updates. :) YAY!!

If you take some Melatonin (about 8mg from the health food store) it will help you to sleep (naturally) - you need your energy for labor...and every labor that I've known to go like yours made for a faster delivery.

October 24, 2011 9:05 AM

Keeping you and your growing family in my prayers. :)

October 24, 2011 9:07 AM

I know this is totally TMI, but instead of the castor oil (which will totally just give you major stomach upset...) try s-e-x. I was almost two weeks past my due date and NOTHING was happening down south - I called a midwife I knew and asked about the whole castor oil thing. She told me not to do that because it would just send to me the bathroom, but to try having sex instead (she also said, and I quote, "and if you can reach the 'Big O' it will be even more effective...")There was def nothing sexy about it, but I went into labor the next morning! Who knew?! Good luck!!

October 24, 2011 9:08 AM

i feel your pain! before my baby girl came i tried eeeverything...spicy food, sex, red raspberry leaf tea, acupuncture and lots of walking uphill. within 24 hours and after 12 minutes of pushing she was here! be careful with the castor oil, though i have heard it can work i have also heard of no baby and lots of looong trips to the bathroom.:( good luck! so excited for you!:)

October 24, 2011 9:08 AM

Awwww. You are in my prayers. I hope baby decides to come out very soon.

October 24, 2011 9:11 AM

Castor oil really does work when your body is ready! That's how I got #2 here. Drank 1/4 c. at 3 in the morning. Started labor at 5 AM and kiddo was born at 8:30 AM. Nasty stuff but it's over quick.

October 24, 2011 9:11 AM

good luck!
you are so strong!

October 24, 2011 9:17 AM

Praying that you do have him soon!!! So at last you can meet him!!!!

Oh wonderful! Relax, listen to your body, and forget the casor oil...it's nasty and doesn't really work. Also remember, you can do this, your body was made to do this, and it'll never get more painful than you can handle (that last one is for Tys to remind you of ) :) good luck!

I would say "no" on the castor oil. I nannied for an OB and she would come home from the hospital muttering about the mess castor oil makes on the delivery bed. She said spicy food, pineapple and sex do the trick without the mess!
Good luck!

October 24, 2011 10:45 AM

You should listen to Alicia Keys' Superwoman!!! Totally timely. Hang in there! Praying for a safe delivery!!!

Check me OUT!

October 24, 2011 10:51 AM

You are so smart not to go in too early. I had the same thing happen and my water finally broke. Even with my water breaking it took my baby a lot time to arrive. She definitely didn't want to come out. It's nice riding out as much as you can at home.

Oooh... PLEASE don't use castor oil!! It'll make you have the runs - bad - and during labor, that's the LAST thing you want... trust me. :-/
I curb-walked (heard of it??) and it put me into labor BOTH times. Walk around your neighborhood with one foot on the curb and one on the street. It jostles that baby right into place and def. gets things going. Good luck!

October 24, 2011 1:08 PM

Good luck to you... hope everything goes smoothly. My midwives recommend castor oil if you're past your due date. I hear it sucks, but it works! Also, it "cleanses" your system in advance and actually prevents messes during pushing. Haha, graphic!

October 24, 2011 1:10 PM

Hey Sydney! I've been following your blog for awhile now and it has been so fun getting to read about your pregnancy; it (almost) makes me miss being pregnant. I'm so impressed that you are trying to have a natural birth. I had one and it seriously was the best, most spiritual experience I have ever had. You can do it!!! I hope the little babe decides to come soon and that the whole process goes smoothly for you!

Oh, btw...I met your mom and sister at TOFW in Richmond. I recognized your mom from a picture you posted of her. She seemed ecstatic to be a first time grandma, as well she should be, that babe is going to be so stinkin' cute!

All the best,

don't do it! the castor oil that is- i've heard horror stories that you poo the whole time...so sick.

you can do it...it hurts like a mother but it's only temporary...if you can make it through transition you can make it through anything...transition is quick and pushing is the most amazing thing ever. however he comes into this world he has a loving eternal family to welcome him...he's totally got it made! ;)

October 24, 2011 2:52 PM

two things:

first, when i was in labor and mine were 6 minutes apart the midwife told me this was the longest time and that it could last a few days. lt was only 13 hours for me...but being that you already have had it for a few days!!

second, everyone i know who had prelabor that long....the real thing was only like an hour.

so either way, you should be good!
