waiting

Monday, October 24

Baby is trying to decide if he wants to come out right now. I've been having painful contractions 5-7 minutes apart since Thursday night. What is that ... 80+ hours? But who's keeping track?
Needless to say I'm a bit wiped. With a heck of a lot more appreciation for women under my belt. Every mother on this earth is SUPER. WOMAN. Let's all cross our fingers that baby makes up his mind soon. Cause I am seriously considering breaking out the castor oil. And I never thought I'd say that.

My one year old just pointed to that belly picture and said "Mama, baby." Weird what little kids know. It'll be over soon dudette. Babies come out, Mama's regain control of their body, everyone is tired and everyone is happy. Soon that will be you. Tired, happy and holding your babe.

If you want that baby out...have sex!!! I dealt with contractions from a Friday evening to Sunday night and finally we had sex and boom...I was in full on painful labor and I had a baby soon after.

Abbey said...

My doctor told me sex does the trick. About to get nerdy here: I guess sex releases the hormones that start labor. It's better than castor oil! Good luck! That little guy will be here in no time!

I have to agree with Kathryn :) It worked for all 3 of my kids! How many weeks are you?

Same thing happened to me. Loads of contractions before active labor actually started. I decided to just go to the hospital and I got them to break my water to really get things going. After they broke my water, things picked up real fast. Good luck! Also, if you're not using contractionmaster.com, you should be!

Oh darling! Do NOT use cator oil. :) It will just give you a different kind of cramps (if you know what I mean)and doesn't necessarily put you into labor. I speak from horrific experience.
You are super woman! You have been through this pregnancy with such grace, you make the rest of us look crazy!
Good luck!!

This sounds like what you might be going through... Though Annoying, these contractions are doing something! Getting that little baby closer to being born. So kick your feet up and practice your breathing :) I'm sure you are, anyway!

I did take the recommended castor oil dose out of the Hypnobirthing book with baby #2 about 12 hours before he was born- so I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but it happened! I even taped myself drinking it, because I thought it would be so comical, but it wasn't even that bad when mixed with OJ, and it's just like a tablespoon or something...Don't drink too much at once or you'll be sorry!!! Good luck, and keep listening to your Rainbow Relaxation.. The first time you really go into labor can be intense, because you've never felt anything like it, but if you can keep breathing, you can do it! I'm so happy for you :) :) Good luck!!

hannahstiff said...

After my daughter was 20 days late I broke out the castor oil. She was born within a day. Terribly nasty stuff though. I recommend mixing with a smoothie. You'll be a great mommy! XO

Don't you still have 3-4 weeks until your due date? Your babe needs all the time you can give him with staying INSIDE your belly. No matter how uncomfortable you are. These last few weeks are the worst for you, but best for him! When you hit your due date, bust out the castor oil if you want, but before, no point.

Katie said...

Eeeeew, castor oil is soooo gross. and it can make for a very gross (poopy!) labor. Fortunately, I know from a friend's experience and not my own:)
Don't do it!

If you take some Melatonin (about 8mg from the health food store) it will help you to sleep (naturally) - you need your energy for labor...and every labor that I've known to go like yours made for a faster delivery.

I know this is totally TMI, but instead of the castor oil (which will totally just give you major stomach upset...) try s-e-x. I was almost two weeks past my due date and NOTHING was happening down south - I called a midwife I knew and asked about the whole castor oil thing. She told me not to do that because it would just send to me the bathroom, but to try having sex instead (she also said, and I quote, "and if you can reach the 'Big O' it will be even more effective...")There was def nothing sexy about it, but I went into labor the next morning! Who knew?! Good luck!!

amanda said...

i feel your pain! before my baby girl came i tried eeeverything...spicy food, sex, red raspberry leaf tea, acupuncture and lots of walking uphill. within 24 hours and after 12 minutes of pushing she was here! be careful with the castor oil, though i have heard it can work i have also heard of no baby and lots of looong trips to the bathroom.:( good luck! so excited for you!:)

Castor oil really does work when your body is ready! That's how I got #2 here. Drank 1/4 c. at 3 in the morning. Started labor at 5 AM and kiddo was born at 8:30 AM. Nasty stuff but it's over quick.

Good luck to you... hope everything goes smoothly. My midwives recommend castor oil if you're past your due date. I hear it sucks, but it works! Also, it "cleanses" your system in advance and actually prevents messes during pushing. Haha, graphic!
