midwives, hypnobirthing, and my ever-growing cantaloupe at 32 weeks

*hello down there. {This picture's twin found here. The fact that I thought I had a belly back then is laughable.}
I went to my midwife appointment yesterday, which always makes me happy as a clam. I've been getting to go every two weeks now {as opposed to waiting an entire MONTH ... torture} and it's always so exciting to see my little boy growing healthy and strong and right on track. And not that anyone cares but me ... but his heartbeat is definitely the cutest thing I've ever heard. Go little heart!

Monday night, we also went to our first Hypnobirthing class {the method I'm choosing to use for a natural birth}. It was so informative and I left feeling empowered. A large part of Hypnobirthing is learning to bring yourself into a state of total relaxation ... something that sounds simple but is actually taking a lot of practice for me to conquer. {surprise, surprise} It's funny though. Whenever I DO manage to bring myself into that relaxed state ... THAT'S the time when baby boy loves to get the most active. Almost like he's already got the "Hey mom! mom! mom! mom! mom! mom! mom! mom! mom! mom! mom! mom!" thing down pat. Or maybe karate chopping is just his thing ...
It is.

In other news ... I'm 8 months pregnant. Whoever said you're knocked up for 9 was lyin' folks. Cause it's 10 months round trip. That's not to say that anyone's gonna be complainin' if he decides to show up at 9. Are you listening baby?

You're almost there! I am glad you are getting prepared, I've been told that it is really key to the process... Not that I know, at all

September 28, 2011 6:06 AM

You look great at 8 months! Geeez!

You're definitely most fashionable pregnant women i've ever seen! :)

September 28, 2011 6:13 AM

i can't believe how tiny 'the-picture twin-you' is. no cantaloupe whatsoever!

September 28, 2011 6:18 AM

I had both of my boys, naturally and used the hypnobirthing method the second time. My hubs can testify that I was MUCH calmer and took the pain much easier the second time following the HB plan. Now, one could say that's bc it was my second baby, but I disagree! Pain is pain!

September 28, 2011 6:22 AM

ahh so exciting girl :) ps you still look stunning in all these photos! xo love the boots!

September 28, 2011 6:23 AM

Wow can't believe that you are already so far along! and you look great too! cute outfit!

i looooooove when you write about natural birth -- when the time comes for me, i want to have a natural home birth... so watching you go through something similar is really inspiring! you're so close!

You're right. Midwife appts are the best. And I'm so glad that you chose the natural birth method. I did 26 hours all natural, but I'm glad looking back that I did. It felt so empowering to come out at the other end of that.

But at the same time, if things go differently (ceasarean, drugs, etc), don't be upset about it. Things happen, and each birth is different and personal and special. And what matters is that darling boy at the end.

September 28, 2011 6:34 AM

Most of the time I'm not all that interested in hearing bloggers post throughout their pregnancy cause I'm just not there yet and can't relate. But there's something different about the way you've walked us through yours that makes me want to keep reading about it. You wear pregnancy very, very well and it's so sweet to see your excitement throughout.

September 28, 2011 6:37 AM

Sydney, You are one glowing pregnant lady! I've loved reading about your journey!

September 28, 2011 6:52 AM

I am really interested in hearing more about "hypno-birthing"! I am definitely going to look into all of the natural methods once we get pregnant and I find this completely fascinating. Thanks for sharing (I hear other people can be pretty vocal in their opinions on all things pregnancy/birth/baby/motherhood) so thanks for being open about what you're choosing to do.

I hope I look as cute as you do when I'm pregnant!

September 28, 2011 6:54 AM

September 28, 2011 8:28 AM

i really hope all goes well when the babe does decide to come. and that the hypobirthing proves useful. proud of you!

September 28, 2011 8:54 AM

Quick question! Is your H&M Jacket from this seson, or is it older? I am looking for something almost exactly like that and would love help tracking it down. Your blog rocks, and best of luck with your pregnancy!

Hope you are having a great day!

September 28, 2011 8:57 AM

you're really only pregnant 9 months. it just seems like ten because you're prego 40 weeks total and to make it easier for doctors they just break it up into 4 week increments (but most months are 4 1/2 some 5). Wow I sound like a nerd. Any way, you look amazing! Good luck with hypnobirthing.. you'll do great. And even if you can't/don't follow through- giving birth to a baby no matter how its done is a feat in and of itself. you'll rock!

September 28, 2011 9:03 AM

you're almost there! and im sure you may already know about this cutie pie blog. but she and her man just welcomed their 4th girl into the world using hypnobirthing. she blogged about it if u want some encourgament: mycakies.blogspot.com

September 28, 2011 9:04 AM

they actually consider you pregnant from the first day of your last period, which of course you are not. So, the process is only actually 9 months. But it sure as heck feels like you're pregnant for a year or so it seems!

September 28, 2011 9:06 AM

Seriously? Cutest prego lady ever! You look absolutely adorable!

September 28, 2011 9:06 AM

umm i don't understand the 10 month thing? but i do know that you're awfully close to seeing that little babayyy :) i'm excited for you two.

September 28, 2011 9:08 AM

September 28, 2011 9:13 AM

you are just the cutest preggo ever!

September 28, 2011 9:17 AM

I totally agree that waiting a month to go to the dr when pregnant is way to long! The babies heart beat is the best, but just wait...gets way better!

September 28, 2011 9:30 AM

you look so beautiful and happy ! your are the prettiest pregnant women ever :)

I hope the hypnobirthing thing works for you. We have a friend in our ward who wanted to and was dead set on it, so when things didn't go as planned (and their baby was in the NICU after an unplanned pitocin and epidural and episiotomy), she was quite disappointed. Just go in with the intention to come home with a healthy baby, no matter how he comes. You're almost there!! :)

September 28, 2011 10:05 AM

You look beautiful, and so happy! I just gave birth to our son Rafael 2 weeks ago naturally and wrote his birth story on my blog in case you are interested. Its very candid :)

It's gonna be awesome!
I read the post linked here and it reminded me of one of my mum's birth, i think it was when i was born (i am her first child), she was in a double room and she says her mate was so nervous, crying all the time and very scared, and she thought like "um, i'm not scared at all and so happy, may be my feelings are wrong?" She's very very peaceful, it amazes me sometimes how she manages pain, she says "when i'm going through the roughest pain i always think it could be even more so i stay calm, you never know your limits" but in case of labour she says "it is painful, i can't say it's not, but i wouldn't scream, i never felt like screaming and crying, not in a million years, in all my labours i was SO happy to meet my daughters, so happy i couldn't even think of feeling any pain" That's what she says and i know it's true, so i guess if you live your pregnancy and your labour with happiness, trusting life, nature, God, you'll take it as an amazing and unvaluable experience. At least that's how i it'd work for me!

Hope this little post is read and encourages you a bit!

you're just so so cute

September 28, 2011 10:30 AM

Okay, nerdy math teacher here (and honestly, it took me much too long to figure out how 40 weeks was equal to 9 months), but... if a month = 4 weeks, that mean the number of days in a year = 12 months x 4 weeks x 7 days per week.

12 x 4 x 7 = 336 days

But in reality there are 365(.242199) days in a year, and more than 28 days (4 weeks) in each month, except for non-leap year Februarys.

So glad to hear everything is going perfectly and looking forward to reading more about your birth prep and birthing experience after the little guy is here. All the best!

September 28, 2011 10:45 AM

I seriously think that you & my sister-in-law will have boys at the exact same time! How cute is that!
I have a question about leggings. I have a hard time finding some thick enough that don't show my g's especially when I sit. What kind of leggings do you recommend?

September 28, 2011 10:50 AM

also? how in the world do you still manage to look hawt when you're 8 months preggo? i need your secret for the future.

September 28, 2011 12:42 PM

Just found you. You are super cute. I am currently past 10 months. Never thought it would be me. Always thought i would be done at 38 weeks ISH. I refuse to be induced, because I am also going natural...but some days I want to listen to all of these crazy people that tell you to just get it done...although after my meltdown to my husband today (HE IS NEVER COMING OUT!!!!)....I feel like I can make it a couple more weeks. I am 40 weeks 5 days now :)

September 28, 2011 12:42 PM

sydney you have a butt! :) baby brought that along with the tots too :)

sharde @ the style projects

September 28, 2011 12:43 PM

another math major here but yes, it is 9 months because 4 weeks doesn't equal one month (it's 28 days) so when you add the extra days and the first 2 weeks that they count (from the first day of your last period), it comes to 9 months:)

love your blog and just got those exact boots!!

September 28, 2011 1:26 PM

*jealous* loved being pregnant...I loved it, loved it, loved it...if I had it in me, I'd keep getting preggo until I couldn't do it anymore :) So nice to read another Mother who is enjoying it and not complaining...

...as much as you think you are ready to have him out, the minute he is, you'll be ready to be pregnant again (I can remember holding my first born and loving it, while missing the miracle of feeling his life inside me as well)...okay, maybe you won't feel that, but you might...this is such a great time of life :)

SO excited for you...thanks for letting us be on your miraculous journey with you!!

September 28, 2011 1:35 PM

So excited for you!! The last month is the worst and goes by SO slow but then they're here and time flies. Enjoy every minute of being pregnant and bringing the sweet little nugget into the world. It was by far the most amazing moment in mine and my husbands life. I can't wait for the birth story :)

September 28, 2011 1:51 PM

You look great! I always feel the most beautiful when I'm pregnant. And as someone who thought I was going to get an epidural and didn't....it is very empowering. The human body is an amazing thing and I think it's awesome you are doing it natural. =)

September 28, 2011 2:32 PM

you seriously look amazing! AMAZING!!!!

I am excited to hear how your Hypnobirthing goes. I have four kids. The last two we did hypnobirthing and i know YOU CAN DO IT!!! :) Practice, practice!

Glad you enjoying being prego!

I've heard such wonderful things about hypnobirthing! Definitely the way I want to go when I'm pregnant. I have a giveaway on my blog right now for a book called the yoga of birth. It's amazing, even if you're not into yoga, and is all aobut natural birth. The giveaway's here: http://thislittleport.blogspot.com/2011/09/giveaway-yoga-of-birth.html

You look so adorable! I'm glad that pregnancy is treating you so well. You'll have to let us all know how the hypnobirthing goes :D

September 28, 2011 9:41 PM

I know I have blabbed about it before - but I used hypnosis for my last baby and LOVED it! Not only did I have a fast "easy" natural birth but it made the end of pregnancy really enjoyable, too.

September 28, 2011 10:20 PM

I didn't take the hypnobirthing classes but read all the books and listened to a few relaxation cd's. You'll love it!! Even though it was tough, I had my baby at a hospital completely natural!! I LOVED it so so much. It's the best. Hard...yes. Worth it...oh ya!!

September 29, 2011 11:52 AM

I'm so so so excited to hear about your baby's birth in about a month! :] I love that you are trying natural birth with Hypnobirthing because that is what I want to try someday. Are you having a midwife in the hospital or having your baby at home?

September 30, 2011 10:39 PM

Ok, so I see you all over Pinterest. Like, everyday. So glad I finally found your blog! You are my new prego inspiration. Hubs and I are pregnant with our first too, boy as well! And we're LDS! October 02, 2011 10:41 PM

LOVE your boots!!! What brand are they??

October 03, 2011 1:10 PM

Love the boots! I just bought a pair of cute, cognac colored riding boots this weekend.
Also, love that you are doing hypnobirthing! I did the HypnoBabies home program with my daughter and had a natural birth. Was in labor for 13 hours, had pitocin and was able to still have a natural birth and pushed for only 26 minutes, as opposed to 3 1/2 hours pushing with an epidural with my son. Highly recommend it and as long as you keep being determined during labor, you'll do great! Good luck!
