Awkward and Awesome Thursday!

Thursday, September 29

Shoes: Vera Wang for Kohls, Jeans: UO, Sweater: c/o Chicwish, Glasses: UO
Awkward
- The poor, awkward, soon-to-be father who was left alone in the waiting room with me.
"Soooooooo .... you're pregnant too."
"Um, yep. Yep I am."
"Good ... that's good."
Please, almighty clipboard. Please let my name be next.
- Leaning forward and having my belly easily rest on my legs. The best way to feel ginormous and sweet relief at the same time.
- Baby Registries. Here people! Buy me stuff! I kind of despise them.
- Sitting at a desk all day causes burning shins and swollen ankles. Funny, I thought that was from walking. Welcome to the lose-lose portion of pregnancy!
- Walking full-speed ahead towards the check-out line at Walmart. Clearly, not browsing for anything. One of the associates stops, looks at me and says "OK, I found it. The mango salsa is on aisle 9." Of course I'm thinking this guy is kind of a nutbag ... but I say, "Great. Thanks". Only to realize the woman behind me says thanks too. And the nutbag-turned-not-nutbag-but-actually-a-helpful-associate gives me the "your poor brain must've up and died" look.
Actually ... yes.
- The fact that I KNEW I'd be producing milk at some point. But having a "what the CRAP is going on down there?!" moment, pretty much every time it happens.

Awesome
- Women who don't tell me their birthing horror stories. I love it when they don't tell me those.
- Giving someone the stare-down until they give me their seat. My bump is passive aggressive.
- Running out of my favorite body-saver Shea butter and being pleasantly surprised by the fact that I don't have to order it online and wait 7-10 days anymore. They have a store! yay! I don't live in Idaho! yay!
- Root beer? Since when?
- Waking up in the middle of the night as per usual. And then hearing the rain outside the window. Sleep is somehow always easier after that.
- Actually having good stuff to make packing his lunch that much easier. It's the simple things.
- The weekend. Where whole afternoons can be spent in bed talking. And talking and talking. So glad I didn't marry somebody boring.

it's good that you're a nicer person than me, because I would have come up with so many witty (not at all nice) responses for that guy in the waiting room... ok fine, I wouldn't have said them.

I a little bit am craving mango salsa now.

I promise not to tell you any birthing stories... because I don't even know one : )

September 29, 2011 7:03 AM

You are seriously such an adorable preggo! I love it.

September 29, 2011 7:07 AM

I thought standing would be horrible, too... but I actually prefer it over sitting at a desk, as well! My tailbone hurts from all the weight pushing down on my bootie... I pray that you do not experience that! And uh, please enlighten us, are those maternity pants and if not, how are you still wearing them? Belly band? Rubberband trick? It's mind boggling.

September 29, 2011 7:20 AM

Great post, again! love those red skinnies too. you're AWESOME!

CONGRATULATIONS! You found a sweater with a unique pattern that (when looking at the front) doesn't show you're pregnant and all. However, when you turn, we see your "passive-aggressive" baby bump!!! :) Love it.

The plus side to baby registry's are that you can get a discount on all that isn't purchased...so just tell your self that is why you do it :)

September 29, 2011 8:16 AM

You are so cute! Can't even tell you are pregnant until you turn to the side!
You should have just gone and grabbed some mango salsa with a look like 'thanks for the tip! you were right to think that I look like the type of girl who would want mango salsa!'

Root Beer! I know! I didn't like root beer at all before I was pregnant, then BAM! Couldn't get enough....Also, crunchy cheetos mixed in with cottage cheese is surprisingly delicious! :)

I SO know what you mean about birthing horror stories! Imagine these women wanting to tell someone who isn't even pregnant, isn't even married, and isn't even an adult! Like me. Why do they think I CARE?!?!

All I can think is "look, people. Just because you think your experience was beautiful, doesn't mean the whole entire world has to agree with you. Especially when they are under-age. Just sayin...."

also, i love the sweater and how the print brings out "the passive aggressive bump"

September 29, 2011 10:38 AM

Lovin the red pants! I'm going thrifting soon in pure longing for colored pants for work.

September 29, 2011 11:29 AM

you are so freaking adorable!!! How are you still wearing regular pants???

I agree, the task of doing a baby registry is so overwhelming! My husband and I went to start ours over the weekend. We tried out the different strollers they had in store, and omgoodness, why are they so complicated?! I thought my hubby was going to break them trying to fold/unfold them. Needless to say, we didn't get our registry started and just walked out of there completely overwhelmed.

September 29, 2011 11:32 AM

LOVE that sweater and red together! Holy hotness.

September 29, 2011 11:37 AM

and hhahahaHA! that story of you at walmart with the mango salsa incident...thanks for making me laugh :) I may have just done the same thing. And I hope those darn shin pains go away soon :( But *cheers* to packing lunch for the hubs...brownie points I tell ya ;)

September 29, 2011 11:37 AM

I just have to say 2 things. You are my fave blogger ever. Seriously. And second you are a perfect example that being pregant doe snot mean you have to give up style. I have a feeling you will be a fashionable mom too. :o) Congrats and much love.
Jenny Lynne.

September 29, 2011 11:54 AM

So agree about the registrys, I managed to totally avoid a baby shower, which was all good by me!

You will have a great birth. Ignore the horror stories. So pleased to see you are doing hypnobirthing. I did it too and it was great. So much easier to accept the pain and stay calm when you know it is there to help you and it is part of your body working to birth your baby, not something to be afraid of or fight against (which just makes it seem more painful). I also labored in a birthing pool, which was so great for relaxing me, and the hypnobirthing breathing exercises and relaxation exercises gave me something to focus on through each contraction. Enjoy your birthing experience :)

September 29, 2011 11:56 AM

And, so excited to see you have a midwife. We are from NZ and everyone gets a midwife there (for free too!), you only see a doctor if you have medical complications with your pregnancy or birth.

September 29, 2011 12:27 PM

I look forward to this post every Thursday.. You are beautiful! I'm so excited for you and your husband :)

September 29, 2011 12:56 PM

i hate it when people tell me their birth horror stories, i'm already a worrier I don't need to worry about anything else!
I agree with the registry thing, I totally feel like i'm asking my friends to buy me things, but if you don't your bound to get yellow onsies with poo bear all over them!
I can't wait for your baby to arrive! I'm due in 2.5 weeks! So excited to meet our little guy too!
