156 what I wore on the day of the east coast earthquake

Shoes: c/o Threasdsence, Jeans: 7 for All Mankind, Top: gift, watch: gift, round necklace: Vanessa Mooney
You guys. Everyone in California is laughing at us right now. But this is serious.
We had an earthquake that lasted for all of 5 seconds yesterday and I nearly peed my pants in the middle of Walmart. Though whether those incidents are related or not shall forever remain a mystery I'm afraid.

So all you easterners ... as far over as Boston I hear? How freaky was that?
It was my very first one you know. And the first thought I had as I was watching the applesauce on the shelf next to me start to shake was, "Great. Now I'm gonna have to ditch my cart. All that walking around this stupid place for nothing."

Then, after I turned back into a person with a soul, I thought of first my husband and then the bathroom. He called me right afterwards {my husband, in case anyone needs clarification on that one} and we swapped stories. Then when he came home that night, we gave each other extra big kisses.

So glad it wasn't any more dangerous that it was. Whew!
And I guess I'm OK with having an awesome quake story now.

I heard about it!

Love what you wore, all that for Walmart?! ;-)

This post cracks me up, glad you didn't have to ditch your cart. Yesterday was nuts. I live in Richmond so it was crazy strong here, glad you are alright. Hope you all haven't felt the after shocks we have and they have not been fun.

genevieve August 24, 2011 7:05 AM

So glad you're okay! I can't believe that Georgia didn't get hit, too. Golly. I feel like I regularly almost pee my pants in Walmart. For different reasons.

Stevie Leigh August 24, 2011 7:08 AM

It was quite an experience - my mom was definitely freaking out about me in the city.

Glad we're all okay. And that your outfit was super cute on the big day.

Christa @ themeandminebook.blogspot.com August 24, 2011 7:08 AM

I live in Oklahoma and we had a freak earthquake about this time last year.

When I heard about the east coast earthquake yesterday, my very first thought was "I wonder if Sydney is alright??"

Thinking about you...
Glad to hear all is well with all three of you. :)

Huddyma August 24, 2011 7:10 AM

Haha! We felt it down here in NC! I'm not sure what's happening lately, but I'm not supposed to experience blizzards, tornadoes, or earthquakes down here...in the last year, we've had all three!

Loopee August 24, 2011 7:12 AM

I near peed my pants too!

We aren't laughing here in California! Well atleast I'm not my family doesn't even feel them anymore when they happen unless they are big ones.... Apparently I have a gift of feeling the runway shake. I'm glad you guys survived your first earth quake!

Krista August 24, 2011 7:13 AM

I'm a native Californian and I must confess I was part of the laughing. BUT still... earthquakes are freaky. No matter their size. I don't live in CA anymore, but anytime I hear a deep rumbling noise I brace myself and think "here we go!!!" And then I realize it's just an airplane. It's caused for some awkward moments.

Glad everyone's ok :) And congrats on your first earthquake!

Does 7 for All Mankind make maternity jeans? Are you still in your regular pants? I am so confused? You make pregnancy look like a fashion breeze!

Here! This might help you have a bit of a sense of humor about it lol! I know it helped me. We felt it in upstate NY!

Ana Magdalena August 24, 2011 7:22 AM

We felt it in Rhode Island, it wasn't anything major but still freaky. It was my first earthquake experience, why am I thinking it was kind of cool? (the experience I say, not the actual earthquake).

highheels2flipflops August 24, 2011 7:27 AM

You look AMAZING and so beautiful! Love the outfit. Who takes your pictures of you that you use in your posts? I can never get a decent picture of myself because I always have to be the one taking them! Thanks!

Amanda S. McDonald August 24, 2011 7:30 AM

We felt it up in Saratoga Springs, NY!

Ruth H. August 24, 2011 7:34 AM

I grew up in Utah hearing all about how we lived on a fault line and we were due for "a really big one" and only experienced the tiniest of quakes in 22 years. Now I live in Indiana--where I thought tornadoes were the problem, not earthquakes--and I've experienced three quakes in six years. How crazy is that?

Anastasia from Natbeesfashion August 24, 2011 7:34 AM

10 years ago I experienced a 7,8 Richter earthquake!
It was unbelievable and it did not last only 5 sec..it was like more than a minute!I remember my mom screaming to get away of the buildings (while I was in the yard)..After that for the next 10 days we had small post-earthquakes..The whole village was destroyed and people moved or re-built their houses..
End of sad story.

You look amazing..I'm pretty sure when I'll be pregnant I'll be a fatty fat lady with a huge belly..:(

xxx

Gina August 24, 2011 7:36 AM

Gorgeous outfit! I simply LOVE your shoes :)

And I was so disappointed about the earthquake--I never felt it! My neighbors and friends did, but my family never did! Good thing it was only for 5 seconds!

Hope you have a great week!

xo, gina

Bree August 24, 2011 7:39 AM

It was felt in Toronto too, and I don't know what I was doing (actually I do, I was busy watching TV), but I felt nothing! I wish I got to feel the little quake like everyone else..

Emma August 24, 2011 7:41 AM

I heard it was felt as far west as Indiana, and as far south as South Carolina! A few people in my office (in Ohio) felt it, but for some reason, I was oblivious. Even though my cube-mate was freaking out, haha.

Sidenote: You may be the only preggers woman I've ever seen that still wears heels. You go girl!

Chloe Madison August 24, 2011 7:43 AM

OMG! I felt it in my office in Arlington. SO CRAZY! I fell off a step stool when I was attempting to put stuff away. NOT COOL. So happy things are okay :-)

Even though the National Cathedral has some damage, but that thing is old anyways!!!

Tina August 24, 2011 7:47 AM

YIKES! I live in a Tornado, earth quake, hurricane free area and am so glad every day because even a small 5 second earth quake would have had me losing my mind and living the rest of my life under desks and doorways. LOVE your outfit. I can't beleive we are the same age. You're a babe.

I love the title of your post! lol

I heard the epicenter was in Virginia.. Im in NY and I work for a telephone company, so yea everyone calling everyone after the earthquake caused a MAJOR jam over the phone networks.. It was a blast ;)
The Today Show said the West Coast was making fun of us! But hey we do the same thing when ppl freak out over an inch of snow.

But you looked awfully cute for the earthquake!

RosyRilli August 24, 2011 7:51 AM

Where's your shirt from.. or what's the brand?!

Ps. Love the gold watch :)

Amazing outfit! I'm expecting too. How do you get "regular" jeans to fit? Do you still fit into them or do you use some sort of maternity belt/band? Thanks for the tip!

Leah August 24, 2011 7:58 AM

Well at least you looked this good during an earthquake! I always love the extra big kisses after a rough day.

It was worse in Virginia! My college started falling apart over my head...I'm thinking they are going to need to fix the library now.

A town next to me has had a ton of old, historic buildings condemned. :(

But yes, people all over the world are probably dying of laughter!

I'm in NY and we got it up here, but I didn't feel it at all because I was too wrapped up in my book. Typical me.

Loving your ombre hair - it suits you so well and is the best of both worlds!x

marvelousme August 24, 2011 8:32 AM

You know, it was my first earthquake, too, and I didn't feel a darned THING! But it's been all over the news, with stories of people "fearing for their lives", and I'm sitting there like "we had an earthquake? When?!"

Sad, but true.

Courtney B August 24, 2011 8:33 AM

You are so gorgeous! Love your baby bump...makes me want one :) haha!
And I'm so glad noone was injured from that quake!

Nakia August 24, 2011 8:34 AM

Alexandria August 24, 2011 8:40 AM

You're the best.

I was too busy highlighting and color-coding my calendar to notice it up here in Boston. People are definitely overreacting up here. It's getting old.

Laura August 24, 2011 8:41 AM

It was pretty scary! I didn't know what it really was until my bed was literally moving away from the wall and my photos were all falling off the walls. My poor puppy peed on me because he was scared. SO glad it wasn't serious though! and you're right- now we have cool "earthquake survivor" stories :)

You are seriously the cutest person. Your humor cracks me up. I always giggle to myself whilst reading your posts. However, the people in the library do not approve, I'm afraid. I am currently getting death stares. oh well, its worth it. :)

I read a friends tweet on this (she's in NYC) and thought... that can't be right... an earthquake in the city??? Glad it was a little one and everyone is ok... though I ust say I'm a bit jealous I missed it (I now live in London)... missed last winter's crazy snow storms too! JB.

In Boston over here and couldn't stop laughing when I saw a picture of the earthquake aftermath: a perfect white table with one chair tipped over :)

New follower to the blog- this outfit is so cute and you're gorgeous!

Rin August 24, 2011 5:55 PM

I felt it all the way in upstate NY! Glad you, Tyson, and Little One are OK!

A Babbling Brunette August 24, 2011 6:00 PM

We felt it in SC too! Seriously crazy!! Glad you're okay!

Cortney August 24, 2011 6:16 PM

I've always wondered, so I'll just ask- why do so many people type out the url of their blog at the bottom of their comment? Their name is already a hyperlink to it when they comment, so typing the blog address at the bottom always makes me feel like it's a spam-my comment... I notice it a lot on lifestyle blogs like yours, but not on other blogs I read that aren't so fashion focused, so is it just a lifestyle/fashion blog thing? I'm genuinely confused, because most of the other blogs I read it's considered kind of gauche to promo one's blog like that. I might just not understand the culture.

Jess August 24, 2011 7:15 PM

It's okay if the west coasters laugh! We laugh at L.A. when they cry about a little rain! Earthquakes = scary.

Mommyblogger August 24, 2011 7:16 PM

I'm in Kentucky & we felt it here too. I initially though that my washer was off balance LOL! It wasn't until I heard the dishes in the cabinets rattling that I actually figured out what was going on. At least you looked amazing the day of the Quake!

Stephanie August 24, 2011 7:33 PM

I live in southern VA so I felt the quake, too. I ran outside convinced the house was going to fall down. In the mean time, my mom ran dowstairs to turn the washer off because she thought THAT was what was shaking the house (and the yard?)...until she got a phone call from my grandparents in D.C. asking if we felt it. haha. Supposedly a lot of people thought it was their washing machine. I'm glad I wasn't where I've been most of the summer - on the 8th floor of the Discovery building in Silver Spring Maryland! Glad you survived our freak east coast earthquake!

I live in New Brunswick, Canada and we had the earthquake tremors here. It's crazy how far those things travel. It knocked out our downtown's power.

Ashlee Dearie August 25, 2011 10:25 AM

I was in Fairfax and it lasted a lot longer than a couple seconds where I was - I would say around a full minute. My aunt in Centreville only felt it for a couple seconds. It's funny talking to people in the DC area how different little pockets felt it more or less all within a short radius of each other!

Melody's Voice August 25, 2011 10:49 AM

Hey, are your 7 for all Mankind jeans maternity jeans? I've been toying with the idea of getting some. Let me know please!

So I 100% need those shoes & they are sold out. Boo. Any chance you know the brand? PS so glad those yucky quakes didn't getcha...I have lived in California for 2 years now and when I felt my first earthquake I thought I was going to pee my pants...scary!

alex August 25, 2011 9:01 PM

Ah, I always love your outfits, I have never been in an earthquake, but I think it must be pretty scary.. Good to see you are all okay!

Amy (Oh, My) August 26, 2011 4:19 AM

I love your posts! You make me giggle every time :) Glad you guys are all OK. And I looooove your outfit. When I have a bubba in my belly, gosh, I hope I look as lovely as you! x

Jennah Watters August 26, 2011 7:06 PM

I had just gone outside to take a walk at work. I'm currently 22 weeks preggo, and at first I thought "crap, I'm passing out! I need to sit down." Then I saw the metal warehouses all around swaying and the cars rocking back and forth on their wheels. Then everyone ran out of the building.

But bigger questions - are you still wearing AND buttoning regular pants and you're farther along than me?? Please tell me no.

Bren Herrera August 26, 2011 9:26 PM
