80 choose your love, love your choice

  {our wedding day. back when it was legal for babies to get married}
I received a comment a bit ago, sweetly inferring that Tys and I might be some kind of qualified to be giving out marriage advice.
To which I chuckled. And will not oblige, simply because three years of marriage is not nearly enough to wrack up any kind of wisdom. {We still smack each others bum's in public ok?}
But. For those of you not of our same faith ... or for those who haven't heard it before, I just wanted to share the best marriage advice I've ever heard. Spoken by the President of our Church, President Monson. The advice is simple:
"Choose your love, Love your choice"
And that's what we do.
The exact recipe to our marital happiness I'd dare to say.

Time to go design that puppy and frame it eh?

#1 - LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog. It's always the first I go to when sitting down to read. I might be what you call a little... addicted? But in a positive way, of course!

#2 - I think this is the best advice ever. Our pastor told us before we get married that nothing is easier than saying words, and nothing is harder than living them day after day...and that at the end of our ceremony, legally we will be husband and wife; but we still must decide, each day that stretches out before us, that we want to be married.

and i applaud you and tyson on three years together - in today's word, that's an eternity compared to some!!!

Sweet Susy June 03, 2011 2:46 PM

Just Pure Love!
It is so wonderful to be an LDS and know of eternal blessings with our love one. Im still with my honey bun boyfriend but one day we will have a huge smile while we come out of the Temple =)
Congrats on the baby again n_n

My husband says it like this: choose what you love, then love what you choose. When I was deciding and re-deciding on a major/career path that was said maybe a billion times. Sometimes you can't guarantee that you made the best choice, but you can decide that it was. Lovely blog; lovely you!

it is so great of you to represent the LDS church :) i love how you are always modest, but still fashionable. A lot of people don't know how to pull that off, and you are definitely helping them.

I have been married for almost 5 years. I think this makes me an expert. Or this makes Matt very patient with my cat collecting and shopping and non-cooking and non-cleaning.
I am gonna start a marriage blog next. It's going to be a big deal. I think.

Elaine A (TOBeautyReviews) June 03, 2011 3:53 PM

What a great picture - and wow you look great with dark hair! Couldn't agree more with your advice :)

andrea June 03, 2011 3:56 PM

that is great advice. and definitely worthy of framing!

M. June 03, 2011 4:04 PM

agreed. when marriage is forever- statements like that are not just sensible, they're downright necessary!

you look beautiful and happy in that picture!

Jamie and Jordan Sheffer June 03, 2011 4:08 PM

Syd- I love your blog so much. I read it pretty much daily. I'm a recent convert to the LDS church even though I have been surrounded by it and been going for quite some time. I just got baptized on Saturday. My husband was raised in the church so he is ecstatic! I really love this post. We have been married for just over 4 years and just had a baby girl in October. Congrats on your baby! That is such a blessing. Your blog is so inspiring in so many ways. We plan on going to the Temple in a year and get sealed as a family so my fashion sense has changed a bit. I have always been very modest but I have to modify it a bit now. Your blog shows me that you can be modest and still very stylish. Thank you so much!

Suzzie V June 03, 2011 4:11 PM

This is the best advice I have ever heard. Pres. Monson is a very wise man indeed.

Rachael June 03, 2011 4:21 PM

You should be smacking each other's bums in public til the day you die. Within reason of course. Like, only 10 times/24 hours.

melissa June 03, 2011 4:24 PM

I love that saying!I don't think that can describe a marriage or a life long partnership any better.(if marriage isn't your thing!)

Love, love, love it! So simple and so true.

Torrey Jayne June 03, 2011 4:43 PM

Best advice ever. :)

Allie June 03, 2011 4:49 PM

I'm sorry if this may seem a little forward but why do morman couples tend to get married so young? I'm almost 23 and I feel like if I was a part of your faith that I would be considered an old single lady! My freshmen roommate was morman and she married her first boyfriend! This just baffles me but who am I to ever question anyone's happiness!? Best of luck :) I hope to still be reading your blog in 50 years for some of that knowledge!!

That is one of the most beautifulest quotes about love I've ever heard. I want to make it into art and put it in my room to wake up to every morning. You two are a very cute couple and your love shines through your blog and is so inspiring. (Your gown is gorgeous as well!)

You two are wonderful. Too wonderful for words. And that advice cannot be denied by anyone.

Katie June 03, 2011 7:06 PM

We got married when we were just babies too. I was 18 and he was 22. This month we will celebrate 7 happy years of marriage. I love to see when other couples who marry young are so in love as well. I feel like it puts us in some sort of club :)

Nav June 03, 2011 8:17 PM

Your new follower and Love your bloggy! I know this advice well enough :) I started dating my boyfriend when i was 17 and he was 18. six years later, we are fighting for our love to get married - inter-racial marriage it is. But I have faith in god that we are meant to be together :)
So I abide by your advice girlie!

Happy Weekend!

Yep, that's a pearl of wisdom for sure.

Sarah Fowler June 03, 2011 9:54 PM

This is such a great quote. We have recently joined a "newly married's group" at our church. We are new to the area, and are so happy to have finally made some friends, especially ones through Christ! Can't wait to share this quote with them, it is beautiful (and so true!)

E.C. June 03, 2011 10:16 PM

That is beautiful advice.

Jennifer June 03, 2011 10:42 PM

You just solved the, "What the heck do I write for marriage advice in this bridal shower memory book when I'm still single?" problem for me. This is beautiful.

tw June 03, 2011 11:48 PM

it's too bad you're part of the mormon cult. otherwise you'd be a great blogger.

such a cute wedding photo. i want to see more! i like seeing cute little babies get married :) but that seems like genius advice. thanks!

Linda Rose June 04, 2011 8:30 AM

Good job not giving advice, and good job giving that one little piece you know works. I find the longer I'm married, the less I know. But I did get a couple little nuggets that have stuck with me.
1. Divorce is not an option. But neither is misery.
2. Out do one another in showing honor.
Works every time. :)

Bianca and Sarah June 04, 2011 8:48 AM

awesome advice.

Rachael June 04, 2011 11:11 AM

You mentioned your faith, Can I ask you a couple questions?

1. What do you believe the relationship between Jesus and Adam is?

2. Do you believe that Mormon men will get their own planet of sorts based on the works they do here on Earth?

Sist and Sist June 06, 2011 8:45 AM
