Awkward and Awesome Thursday! {And holy manoley! It's a coat!}

Thursday, December 9

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
Boots: Famous Footwear, Socks: Gap, Jeans: F21, Top: American Eagle, Coat:YesStyle Scarf: Taylor House
Awkward:
- Pulling up next to someone whose picking their nose in their car. And then making eye contact. Sometimes I just point at them like, YOU know what you did.
- Becoming friends with someone in class. But you don't really know their name. And then time passes. And you become better friends. And you feel dumb asking what their name is cause you've spent the entire semester with them. And then suddenly you have to introduce them to another friend ...
- SPAM. Whoever thought putting meat in a can was a good idea should be deported immediately.
- Taking a test in a morbidly quiet classroom. And suddenly my stomach decides to start rumbling. Over and over and over again. So then I have to cover for it right? So I make awkward, I'm sorry people faces and hold my stomach. Which obviously, is such a hassle to do during a test. Sometimes I wish I could just stand up and be like "Um. Excuse me. My stomach is going to be making some very loud noises for the next 20 minutes. So if you could just not look at me ... That would be great. OK thanks."
- People who put sappy love song lyrics as their Facebook or Twitter statuses.
- The guy at the check-out counter who rung up my box of tampons and said, "Oh yea. My girlfriend likes this kind too." why? I mean just, WHY?
- Trying to carry on a conversation with someone in one of those moving lines where it weaves around the divider thingies. You know what I'm talking about? So then you're on opposite sides of one of the dividers but you're next to each other so you can talk right? But then the line moves, so you're not next to each other and then it moves again so you are. So you say Hi, again about a million times when you really just want the person to go away so you don't have to keep making eye contact and then looking away again, just waiting to inch close to them so you can say Hi, again. It's torture basically.
- Trying to open a door by pushing. And then seeing the sign that says PULL. But there's people around, so you have to cover and be like "oh woopsies. didn't see that sign there. ha-ha .................... ha."
- Someone bringing boiled eggs and/or fish to school in their sack lunch. People, it's called respect. I will throw up on you.
Awesome:
- The preview for the upcoming Bachelor. Slap him girl! yay! Again! Again!
- I burped yesterday! YES. I also did a little dance, worthy of a football touchdown to celebrate. {See burping problems here}
- Took a new route through town and found this absolutely incredible red barn. Exciting new photoshoot coming to a blog near you! OK. That was dumb.
- The sweetest girl coming up to say hi to me today! A complete ray of sunshine she was.
- Seeing students fast asleep on the sitting area couches. They look kind of homeless and it's precious. Plus I wish I was them.
- Meeting Husband on campus today for pictures and him saying, Baby get ready to party. Cause we are going OUT tonight. Holy Mamma! Friday Tyson came early! {See Friday Tyson here}
- A lovely afternoon spent with a very talented local accesories designer. You guys, I CAN. NOT. wait to tell you about her!! eeeeeeee!!!

I used to work with someone who MICROWAVED FISH EVERY SINGLE DAY for lunch, and every single day, I would gag. Good times.

I haaaate when cashiers feel the need to comment on your awkward purchases. I bought a pregnancy test today (it was negative) and the teenage boy was like, "Well, um, hope that works out for you...whichever way you want it to go...I mean...if you want to be..uhh.." I was like, "THANKS BYE."

haha that not knowing a friend's name thing made me laugh really hard because me family has season tickets to the Titans and have sat behind this guys for YEARS and he and his son talk to us every game and we still refer to him as the Dairy Man becuase we know he owns a dairy, but have no clue what his name is. It's driving me nuts at this point!

and what guy makes any mention of tampons you are purchasing?!?! We all would rather pretend that's a box of animal crackers... just work with me cashier work with me!

I have never seen any of the bachelor or bachelorette shoes, but I laughed SO hard at that preview.

Annnnd. I love the outfit!

Here's my awkward: when picking up some condoms at a local big box store, a male employee working in the same aisle asked me if I needed help.
I'm certain he wasn't at all paying attention to what I was picking up, but can you imagine how I might respond to that?
"why yes, which ones do you like?"

I love the outfit. Oh, and I'm sorry you can't burp. That must lead to a lot of tummy aches.

My stomach was gurgling at a work meeting this week, and I just happened to be sitting next to the CFO! Augh! So embarrassing!

Knowing that you watch the Bachelor makes me feel MUCH better about watching it myself. I was so ashamed before.

I love the fact that you like Yesstyle too! They've got the cutest stuff, your coat included!
I hate when my stomach makes noise during tests..I think it waits for the most inopportune times, seriously!

Camille said...

Okay, your posts always make me laugh so hard! I am *so* much like you that it's not even funny. It makes me realize how funny I am....lol. I *hate* spam! My whole family loves that stuff so much, and I always feel so pathetic when we're having it for lunch and their like "Good grief Camille! You're really missing out." and I'm like "For the millioneth time...I DON'T like that stuff!" and then they say "You've never even tried it.". I will admit...I haven't....but just the fact that it comes out of a can grosses me out {and the way it looks....EWWWWWWW}.

OH. MY. WORD. I have this awesome friend from orchestra who I love to death...and I have absolutely no idea what her name is. I have known her for *forever* and I feel so weird now. Just hope I never have to introduce her to anybody....lol. :)

Okay, I'm gonna stop now. :)

P.S. The tampons thing made me laugh out loud.

favorite post to date. you CRACK ME UP! my husband was asleep on the couch and i woke him with my laughter somewhere between the check-out counter and the bachelor preview. great stuff. thank you.

Okay, I am aware of the fact that made a comment about 2 seconds ago...but I HAD to share this hilarious story.

Once my dad and I had to run to the store to get a pregnancy test for my mom {which was negative}. We walked in, picked it up, and put it on the little thing that moves {where you put your groceries...for some reason I have no idea what the name of this is....haha!}. The lady checking us out then proceeded to stare at me...and stare at me...and stare at me. I had absolutely no idea why in the world she was doing this. Then it hit me. I was like "Oh my gosh...she doesn't think.....?".

I can't believe she would even think that I was pregnant {I'm 13}. When I even think about getting pregnant I'm like "Ewwwwwww!"

Yes..that's how innocent I am. lol! :)

Okay, I'm gonna stop now.

I found your blog a few months ago. You have the best ideas I've found online for easy ways to be fashion forward. I am cracking up reading the awkward Thursday list! I'm not the only one who has that stuff happen to her. Thanks again for sharing!

awkward: having walked five minutes across campus to class when a stranger comes up to me to tell me my skirt is tucked up in the back. not wearing a slip. mind you this is after i crossed a big intersection with the skirt like that, had a good ten or so people walking behind me with the skirt like that. unfortunate start to the day really.

Your list of awkwards made me laugh out loud. Great work. Particularly #2.

geri e. said...

Ahhh! You point and smile at the bugger-pickerssss?? Ahhhhh! And no one should ever make small talk about tampons in checkout lines. Ever.

Emily said...

hahahaha. I promised to send pictures of my daughter's Halloween costume to a receptionist friend at the pediatricians and didn't know how to address it b/c I didn't know her name (and she knows mine).

In college we would bury our tampons in a pile of other groceries. Now my best friend from college will just buy tampons and chocolate and check out with a teenage boy who looks like he might be embarassed. ha.

PS love the coat!

pancakeSTACKER said...

Lol!! I loved everything about this post. Your outfit is darling for starters and your list of awkward things just made me night. The tampons thing is hilariousss! I once bought 30 boxed of tampons from my guy friend who worked at target...(Who does that, right?) SUPER AWKWARD. But in my defense, I had a coupon which made them all free, and it was for a practical joke. In retrospect, standing there while he scanned 30 boxes of those "pearl" tampons was prob more awk for him than it was for me!

Stop by sometime!

Ahh! I do the same thing with forgetting my classmates name! It drives me nuts yet I can't for the life of me remember to remember their name. What kills me is when they remember my name and I have NO clue what theirs is...

haha i totally get what you mean about becoming close friends with someone whom you aren't sure what their name is! i've got that a couple of times, and was too embarrassed to ask so i had to go around asking other people, hehe!

and funny enough, i was trying to burp the whole of last night. it was terrible. i couldn't sleep and started walking around my room aimlessly, in hopes for a burp to happen. and alas, it did!

on another note, i love your outfit, and you're looking real gorgeous. x

Pam S said...

I have the worst memory for names, so I once met a friend in town and my best friend was stood next to me and I just stared blankly and said "screw it I can't remember my own name today let alone anybody else's" then I went and stood in the corner of shame in my head.

Awesome: Finding out my ovarian cyst has vanished...though that leads to a not awesome of why didn't the hospital tell me that could happen? Also why do I still get pain am I going mad...which will be awesome once I'm mad because everything is better with added insanity.

TeachingInHeels said...

Love the list. Simple things that everyone can realte to.

The outfit looks to casual cute, not to dressy, but totally put together. Love it!

annie said...

really love the simplicity of this outfit... so great for cold weather! and, why oh why do stomachs always seem to growl during exams?? it's like it knows the entire room will be quiet enough to hear the ridiculous sound coming from the center of the room. and, really? what's the etiquette there? confess and make funny faces? or pretend it's the person next to you?

(p.s.- so excited to win the giveaway!)

Love your coat and the denim on denim.

My awkward moments are always when I half way trip and just have to keep walking. I always feel like an idiot bc on NYC streets someone ALWAYS sees you!

My awesome moment, a phone call from a boy I like and how easily we can talk for HOURS :)

honestly i can't stop looking at your blog. i've been addicted for a month and i just love it!!! you're amazing!!!

LOVE the coat. It's just perfect with the oatmeal scarf from Taylor House. And, I never thought I'd like the chambray shirt on jeans look, but girl, you can pull it off! Hope your weekend is full of more awesome moments than awkward ones!

Mary said...

Wow, we have the EXACT same issue with burping!!! My "gurgle" has been noted by my inlaws as the dinosaur sound though. Hahahaha! Glad to meet another dinosaur ;)

Heather said...

Awkward: At least once a week, when I wake up to go to the bathroom in the morning, a long hair will slide down my bare back and it takes every bit of mental energy to not freak out cause it feels like a spider slooowly. crawling. down. me. ::shudder::

Awesome: Walking easier in heels since lifting heavier weights!

Hilarious comment from the checkout guy! Sometimes I like to put funny combinations of purchases together to see if I can get a comment... Cucumbers next to personal lubricant; that sort of thing.

Yay for burping! You have to try the self-induced finger burps sometime; its saved me so many times.

I love this post, and my awkward moment today was at work! I work at the airport and I was just pointing to direct people where to go and people tend to leave there bags, pets, and sometimes even children near me. Today this gentlemen rolled over his 2 year old daughter in her stroller and left her with me while he went to go check his bags. So trying to be nice I looked over at her and waved and next thing I know she is screamming bloody murder, and she is now hardly making any noise because she is crying so hard. It was so embarrassing! Everyone who was checking in looked back at me and thought i was this terrible child eater. haha
