I love this! I'm totally going to try it :) my hair is a little bit more layered than yours.. hopefully it will still work though. I love that it's a "dirty" hair style... I need more of those, HA!

November 13, 2010 7:46 AM

So cute! I'm going to try it. I'll send you a pic if it works!!

Hmmm I'll have to try this one. I always do a pretty silly looking bun that my sister refers to as mickey mouse ears. I'd rather be Audrey Hepburn haha. Thanks!

This tutorial was great! I am horrible when it comes to hair so I need all the help I can get!

November 13, 2010 8:35 AM

You are a doll, and I will definitely be trying this - I do a very, very toned down version of this anyway, so why not spice it up?

You are adorable! Thanks for the tutorial and your blog!

November 13, 2010 8:41 AM

I loved the tutorial unfortunately my hair isn't quite long enough yet, so maybe in a few months it will be...I will definitely try it then!

This was such a great tutorial! I saw a similar tutorial on another blog a while back and had been meaning to try this look, and now after watching yours I NEED to try this look! Riiiight after I get my hair done, these roots are a bad scene and pulling them back for the world to see would not be pretty. 2 more weeks! Ha! Thanks for sharing!

November 13, 2010 8:44 AM

Your bun is too cute. And you are just adorable! Thanks for the great tutorial.

November 13, 2010 9:07 AM

haha, when you were using Ty's comb I had to laugh because my husband has the same complaint when I use his comb and brush...that I get my hair all entangled in them! Lol. I, too secretly use his stuff even though he doesn't like it. ;)

November 13, 2010 9:46 AM

Love this look! Too bad I have short hair!

November 13, 2010 9:58 AM

Great tutorial, Sydney! I've been trying to perfect my bun for some time now. I followed your directions and it worked great. I'll send you a picture... but... later... when I'm not in all gray sweats. :)

November 13, 2010 10:35 AM

I have started doing the bun thing a lot too! But I hadn't thought of rat-ing (not sure how I would spell that) my hair out. Great Idea..my thin hair needs the umph!

Thanks :)

November 13, 2010 11:21 AM

I would love to try this trend.. but I think my hair is just a tad too short. Bummer!

November 13, 2010 12:28 PM

LOVE IT! When I'm on day three of not washing my hair I will totally try out this bun. :)

November 13, 2010 1:06 PM

I think I may try this out today! Thanks for sharing! :)

I really do like your hair style - but unfortunately I have really fine hair. Do you have any suggestions for those of us with fine hair that can neither take a lot of product nor produce such an adorable, voluminous bun?

November 13, 2010 2:40 PM

Sydney, you are adorable! Thank you for this tutorial, your bun is so cute and stylish :) I often wear my hair in a bun so I'll give this updo a try, thanks again!

November 13, 2010 3:07 PM

"Look at those roots, mm yummy."

HAHAHAHA

November 13, 2010 3:40 PM

I LOVE that you do these videos! Seriously so helpful! Next one should be your makeup--love your eye liner! thanks for sharing :)

November 13, 2010 5:05 PM

Love the tutorial. I have fine thin hair, so the ratting technique will be brilliant for me to use. Will probably use it for other things too.
Thanks for the vid.

Thanks for posting this tutorial! I just did my hair today inspired by your last one and I LOVE it. I had tried to accomplish the same look before, but I don't think I was curling properly or pulling them back out a little bit. I am excited to try this hair style in a few days! (I also go atleast 3 days between washings haha...) Thanks again!

November 13, 2010 6:27 PM

my bun can't go as high as yours.haha thanks again for the tip.

November 13, 2010 8:39 PM

Love your bun but I think only certain people or heads can pull this off and you definitely can ( I mean that in a good way). Anyways Im a new follower and was wanting to know what do you major in or do for work since you have great style and it seem like you're a creative type such as a graphic designer of some sort. I dunno...
Looking forward to seeing all the lovely outfits.

Hi its really very nice blog, very useful information..Mobiles

ok... now my face was an inch from the screen! love it girl, totally adorable!

November 14, 2010 1:01 PM

Ok. Tried the bun thing. Failed miserably. I was planning on sending my pic in to you... but then I realized I looked like a fool. I even wrote a post about it (http://itsallaboutalifestyle.blogspot.com/2010/11/i-will-never-be-audrey-hepburn.html). I must be doing it wrong. Or I just can't pull it off. My bun looks tiny compared to yours which doesn't make sense cause my hair is like six inches longer than yours. Anyway... Have a good day!

November 14, 2010 1:35 PM

My hair is shorter, too, but it still worked with a few variations. Instead of wrapping the whole tail around I spilt it up into a few sections and pin them in. It looks just as full and you'd never guess my hair was way shorter than yours. I've been doing the pulled-back bun thing for a while, but now it will look cute!

Also, a funny using-hubby's-stuff story: One day I was really curious if my husband's electric shaver would shave my legs. So I secretly tried it with the intention of NEVER telling him, for fear of grossing him out. Well it was no sooner than the very next time he used his shaver that he asked me, "Baby, did you use my shaver to shave your legs? There's glitter all over my face." I had been caught, thanks to my glittery lotion coming off in his shaver. And no, it didn't even work on my legs! Bahahaha! And he'll still get a little sparkly after shaving, months after the fact.

Love your blog, can't even tell you. I've been working new combos of the clothes I already have, inspired by you, and have gotten tons of compliments. I think I'll try the 30 for 30 here soon.

I think we would be friends if we knew each other.

November 14, 2010 3:42 PM

You seriously are the cutest! I do this bun all of the time. And the only thing that I don't do is rat it as much! I will use the tip! Thanks for the tutorial. I would love to see how you pose for your pics! I have the hardest time with posing. Eek!

Thank you!

I've been obsessed with messy buns since 8th grade. Still going strong. I just found your blog today. Love it already.
I'm thinking about doing the 30 30 thing too. I'll let you know how that works out {i think it'll be easy too}

Stop by and say hi!

If it hasn't already been said (I didn't read all the comments), I will say it, your picture caption reminded me of the "Big Butts" song, & now I have it stuck in my head.

"...I like big butts & I cannot lie... bun hon..."

Yeah, I am 99% sure he says "bun hon" somewhere in that song.

Anyway, thank you for that! :)

November 14, 2010 5:33 PM

Love this tutorial!!! Haha, I was cracking up at the end...you are too cute.

PS Heard you can also do this same style with a thing called a hair donut if you have shorter hair. Haven't ever tried one though since I have longer hair!

Have a great weekend :)

November 24, 2010 12:47 AM

I have been rocking the top of the head bun for almost 10 years now! Its my go to hair but I have always thought it was a bit sloppy. It was totally just a huge "messy bun" I am going to try this tomorrow and send you a picture!

November 30, 2010 9:32 PM

Yes! I just watched all ten minutes of your tutorial and I'm going to give your bun a try. My hair is longer than yours and crazy thick (literally: massive) so I won't tease it, but I'll follow all your other tips. Can't wait!

December 02, 2010 9:27 PM

This was such a nice simple tutorial! I did a bun like this yesterday and got a lot of compliments on it (I usually straighten my curly mane but I decided to leave it be and try your hairstyle)!

Thanks for posting these. Your blog is great and I've definitely used your outfits for some inspiration! :D

Good luck with exams and happy holidays miss!

December 07, 2010 7:11 PM

Really cute!! I have been wanting to try this!! Thanks for the tutorial!! I got the link from my friend Caley. I would love to see a tutorial on the kind of braid that you do from the middle part to the back of your head if that makes sense. I've been having a hard time doing that one myself.
(like the one on this site of Lauren Conrad's)
http://www.zimbio.com/How+to+do+Side+Braids/articles/3/Get+Lauren+Conrad+Chic+Side+Braids

anyway-- thanks for the tutorial!

December 08, 2010 9:33 PM

I HAVE to say...I wanted so so SO badly for this to work for me but I was terrified to even try because I have insanely short hair. BUT I have excellent news!!!

It works on my short UGly hair!!! Yippe! Your tutorial is an all purpose all hair length video! Thanks SYd!

I just walked in to the living room whre my husband is studying for finals and he said, "Nice hair babe!" I was shocked! Score...I'm wearing this to school tomorrow!

December 15, 2010 3:14 PM

Thank you so much for this tutorial! It is great! I tried this hairdo out following a couple other tutorials, but your way is by far the best. I feel very stylish with this pretty bun. :)

Thanks!

December 23, 2010 4:00 PM

Bun! This was awesome! Thanks!

December 25, 2010 11:37 AM

this is the first time I have ever read your blog and I kind of want to be best friends... as weird as that may sound.

I have really thin hair, and as a server always have to wear it up. I did/do something really similar to my own hair, but I will definitely be trying this! I always add a fake flower ( $1 dollar at Michaels or any craft store) with the stem cut very short just to add some color to my all black server gear. I tell everyone it's my "flare" hehe

Hi there! I just found your blog the other night...Sorry, can't remember where...I was just casually blog stalking here & there. Then I found your 'bun' tutorial...LOVE! I tried i this a.m. and it's a little messy, but a nice change to how I'm used to doing my *not so cute* buns normally. This one's a keeper ;-)
