My hair and make-up thought we were going to a Christmas Party today. They were absolutely sure of it. So they pulled out their big guns and whipped me into shape with their most fabulous colors and fanciest swirly do. After I looked in the mirror I told them, “Hey, good job guys! You look great!” And they said, “Um. We know. We’re going to a Christmas Party today.” And that’s when I had to break the news to them. I told them that they were not going to a Christmas Party. No, in fact they were actually going to school. All. Day. Long.
It broke their little fancy hearts and they cried and cried. Which made me start to cry. And we all had a big crying party together, mourning over the fact that we were indeed, not going to a Christmas Party. It was a sad little moment.
But then after a while … I pulled it together and consoled their fancy hearts by reading scrumptious Thanksgiving recipes out of my cookbook and telling them tales of the good things to come. And that made us all feel a little bit better.

Moral of the story:
1. I’m awesome at turning inanimate objects into real things with real feelings who can both understand and relate to me.
And 2. I’m SO ready for the holidays to get here. Who’s with me?!

Also, do you not love that little flower pin? Adds the perfect little touch of dandiness in my opinion. Soooo ... we can be twinsies if you want. Get yours here! And also, check out the lovely Miss Anna's sweet shop. She's the brains and beauty behind the incredibly creative and inspirational In Honor of Design blog. You must see it. It was kind of love at first sight.

Anywho, enough of my ranting. I gave you an award so if you get a chance hop on over to Spunky Junky to pick it up...

Thanks again for always brightening my day with your posts.

Funny story. I started to feel holiday party inspired myself yesterday after watching Beth Jones' most recent "Cheapest Accessory" video.

To summarize she does her hair exactly like yours! And I went home and practiced. Because that's what my hair needs, practice. Please note, my holiday party is not until December 7th. And as such I will be doing this hairdo about once a week for, uh, practice.

so how bout this...

last night i went to a girls night out and i added a belt to my ensemble (of course, pshhh) and i told my belt that he needed to tie like urs. he was confused at first and really scared. he didn't want to go through the little leather flap first because he had always gone through the metal buckle ever since he could remember (he was adopted so he holds tight to his memories).

anyway. we practiced it a lot. there were tears (as u experienced as well), gnashing of teeth, u name it. at the party he was so shy about it too but i stood confident so he could emulate me.

u know what? by the end of the night he was freakin ROCKIN that belt "pretzel tie" (as i've named it) and he is actually loving it MORE than his usual belt thru buckle ways. i'm imressed.

it's all a growing phase. we all grow. tell those little hairs of urs to put on their michelle obama pants and just GROW. i have faith in them. if that means anything at all. *shrug*

I think this is my favorite outfit so far from your 30 day thing. I would wear this just to school, too- you look very scholarly! And love the fancy hair and make up-- it makes life feel more fun!

Lauren said...

Gorgeous! Hair and makeup did a fabulous job of getting ready for the day, even though they were tricked into going to school instead of the party :) :)

Love this outfit - the proportions, the colors, the flower pin - I love how it all flows together!

My hair does the complete opposite when it thinks it's going to a party, it says "There will be lots of people won't there? They might think I look stupid, and what if they spill something on me or worse, they could throw up on me...no I'm not going, I refuse" so my hair looks blah and then I don't want to go any more but I do and people say my hair looks boring.

Maybe your hair could tell my hair not to fear parties.
