Sometimes I think. "Ugh. Another outfit post. Are you serious? Syd, get it together ... this is getting really boring." And it is guys. Admit it. I'm kind of bummed out about it actually. I wanna do something new. I wanna talk about how awesome it was that we went to the park the other night and played frisbee golf together, or about the impromptu picnic we had with some friends, or the cleaning frenzy that went on in my house the other day, or the delectable meal that I prepared in 10 minutes flat. Sounds cool right? You wanna be our friends right? WRONG. We're not cool and that stuff didn't happen. You wanna know what does happen? We get up at 6. We get dressed. Husband scrapes off our cars --like the hero that he is, and we go to school. We go to school for a very long time. And then we go to work. And work seems kind of long too. And then we go home. And no one's been there all day, so it's kind of cold. And I look at my kitchen and I cringe a little bit. And I imagine that there's my very own personal chef there {his name is Angelo}, waiting for me to give him our order. Then Husband asks me what's for dinner and Angelo flies out the window. Which also kind of bums me out. Then, somehow we eat. And we do homework. With maybe a couple breaks for cuddling in between. And then we go to bed.
Rinse. Repeat. And repeat. and repeat.
I think I'm all done being a college kid.
Oh, and random bit: Here's a wreath I got for 7 bucks. It used to be $40. BAM.

I love OOTD posts!

and I am totally inspired by this look. I may have to craft my own look similar to this one with my own clothes! :)

Unfortunately, "rinse and repeat" doesn't stop once you leave college. Quite the contrary.
Try to appreciate the small things! Cheesy, yes, but it helps. And try to have things (even small things) to look forward to.
I love that shade of blue, by the way.

Kayla said...

I love that wreath first off! Secondly, I'm starting to feel the same way. When people ask, ' What's new?' and I have to look at them and think, absolutely nothing. Lather, Rinse and Repeat. Agreed. The one fun part of my day? Blog Stalking. So I don't think you're boring, in fact I think you make my life a little less boring just by being you!

girl, I know how you feel. it does get old and life is busy, busy, busy. with school, the full time job, a hubs, and a kiddo, plus doing the outfit thing, it's... well, it's a lot! but know that WE love you. we think you're SUPER interesting. you are gorgeous, have awesome clothes, share your wonderful photography and beautiful marriage (I'm sure just a tiny glimpse of it) with us, and did I mention that WE LOVE YOU?

you're doing a great job. wash, rinse, repeat will always happen, but you guys are embarking on a new adventure, soon, and hopefully your NEW wash, rinse, repeat will shake things up just the right amount for you. :) and we'll all still be here, waiting to see what you wear in the big city (where I grew up, know, and love, btw)!

p.s. I'm coming across the country to buy your wreath. I will pay $20. You'll make 13 bucks. Win-win?

i knew you were lyin when you said amazing meal in 10 min. c'mon- who does that? :) and enjoy the college life cause it only gets worse when you hit the corporate world. but hubbies make it better!

Love the wreath! I am with you on being over college. Just have to keep it together for one more month...and then I'm sure I'll be wishing I was back in college again. Isn't it so fantastic how life works? :)

Keep your head up! Everyone has blase moments (i love that word) with their wardrobe and with their daily routine...but just think youll have date night soon and something funny will happen and youll laugh!
PS - it doenst stop once your out of school. My bf and i have the same thing happen when we get home from work. Can we share Angelo? Id love a personal chef

Don't worry. I know JUST how you feel. I work full time and my hubby is in school (we live upstate NY). I have found that they best thing to break up the mundane boringness is to plan something fun. I NEED something to look forward to. We have a dollar theater out here and we will do that or play Settlers of Catan with friends or something. There is a cooking school out here so I have considered taking a class. Just try something new to make the school/work/home circle seem more exciting!!

Oh college...I think I figured out that I could possible graduate a whole year early! Haaaaaaaallelujah. And the wreath = Awesome!

I am so feeling that way this week. Too much to do, and I'm not totally in love with any of it. But, your new wreath is a bright little spot. Please keep posting outfits, because I love it and you look fantastic. And maybe someday we'll both figure out how to get through the doldrums...

Lauren said...

Girl, you could post pics of u guys watching tv and i would read every day (i sound mega creepy) im really not!

Torrie said...

I have a lot to say, but I'll try to fine-tune myself.

On one hand, IT GETS BETTER. Yes, still mundane and BUSY, but not in the same way as it is when you're a student- and much easier to squeeze in the fun parts of life- picnics, friends, DIY, etc. In this aspect, I would never want to turn back the clock.

On the other hand, it is so easy to let life (kids, corporate job, responsibilities, etc.) take over and essentially place yourself in the same mundane spot... busy, uninspiring, draining...

So, my point? Your blog- and others- (even though we are in totally different "life spots") has pulled me out of the mundane, or the "frump" (never thought I'd refer to myself in that way, but I wrote a post a short while ago on this *dreaded word). I love that I now know how to make my hair wavy, and how specifically I want it cut to even make it look better, and how I can not spend a fortune, but still have style.
And not to mention- your love for your husband (especially for someone who has been married for years!) is INSPIRING.

I would LOVE to read other topics, but not because they are more interesting- because they come from YOU- your spirit, energy, style, love shine through in whatever you write about... and THAT is why I read your blog.

One more thing (sorry- not so "refined" after all)-

It's funny- today, I was feeling very uninspired, thinking- people are tired of hearing about Halloween costumes, recipes, family excursions... I need more "fun" posts, like Sydney (cute outfits, new hairstyles...). Definitely going to take my own advice:).

No, not boring at all! At all! I love seeing your outfits -- you're so cute I can't stand it. And I totally want to be your friend.

I know how the daily grind feels. I work 4 p.m. to 12 a.m., and my husband is in nursing school and works part-time at the local tennis center. We don't see each other on Sundays. Hang in there!

Hey Sydney,
Found your blog through What Would a Nerd Wear and just started following.

Just wanted to say that I love looking at your beautiful photos--they always inspire me to kick my outfit choices up a notch. Even if you didn't cook a perfect meal in 10 minutes or play frisbee golf the other day, I still want to be your friend. The voice in your blog posts is fun and funny and strong. I also really appreciate how real you are in this post--it's not just rainbows and lovely clothes, it's life too.

Push through your blues. Once you're done with college, you sometimes wish they'd let you back in. And if it gets too bad, you can always run away and visit me in France...

Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Just wanted to say that I bought some of those boots (after seeing them on you), and I wore them for the first time today, and they kept my feet warm, dry, and stylish. Success!

your outfit posts are my favorite, I was so happy to see a dress today too. I was actually going to ask you to do a couple skirts/dress posts. (I work everyday and have to wear skirts or dresses because I don't like dress pants and can't wear jeans!) and I love getting inspiration from you!

Aww, everyone's responses are so sweet! & true & I agree. But I understand. Sometimes I have mini-panic attacks thinking that eventually I'll run out of outfits & start creatin boring ones & people will figure out that I'm really lame sauce & stop coming to my blog. But I keep trying because it seems worse to give up rather than fail.

Even if you took a break, I'd hang on until your break was done because you're a great stylist!

Sydney,
I recently stumbled upon you blog thanks to Tania at What Would A Nerd Wear and I absolutely love it! You're doing a wonderful job. I know how college can be...I'm only 14, but my brother who is a freshman is completely worn out. He's up late at night working on homework for his extremely hard research class and has absolutely no life outside of it. But, hey, he's doing well in class. Whatever it takes. Oh, and by the way, I would never get tired of your outfit posts. Really. They are so cute and even though it may seem to you that you don't have any creative outfits and feel like you're creating outfits that are similar, you aren't at all. Every one of your outfits are more creative than the last. Even if you do have the same thing on it looks completely different because you remix things in a completely ingenious fashion. Keep on goin' Syd!

Madeline said...

Sydney! New to your blog.
Loving the honesty already. I am 110% inspired by people like you who aren't afraid to be creative...and honest and open about life at the same time.
I'm 24 and single, and always thought that having a husband by now would make life so much easier/perfect...? I really needed your fresh reminder that, Hey, even though I have a hott husband, life is still hard and lame sometimes.

ching said...

i like it when you put humor in the end. :)

rebecca marie said...

I like every post :) And the outfit of the day well they're pretty freaking cool, and totally helpful. Like today when I couldn't figure out what the heck to wear to work I sat down and combed through the last like 2 months of posts and then went back to my closet and finally figure it out thanks to come inspiration from you! then promptly texted my sister from another mister (I think you know her a bit actually, Lauren over at Me and Mine) and told her I was having a Daybook outfit Day.

So it may be boring to you but it's not for me :) However, I would be perfectly content hearing any quirky stories from work or class. Or even fantasies about Angelo, especially because I have a fantasy about a maid for my bitty apartment, her name is Margaux.

Kayla said...

Thank you for this post! As a newlywed and recently graduated now working girl I often have the "rinse and repeat" feeling. I thank God for husband, fashion, humor and things like this blog to brighten the day!
I recently started reading your blog and am loving it! Thanks girl! God bless you!

I think it's the oncoming winter (I like to blame my problems on the weather), that's making you feel this way. I've sorta had a similar feeling lately. Even when I like my outfit a lot, and I think the pictures came out well, I sit down to write my post and I just can't think of anything to SAY. My life routine sounds somewhat similar to yours except I have work not school and no husband, or boyfriend. Sometimes when I get home it's just like gahhh. But that's me. I was really surprised to read that you also feel this way, because I am such a fan of your blog and your style. I feel like I have a golden picture in my head of bloggers who I really like, I think it's brave of you to come out and be like, hey it's not ass sunshine and smiles.

This is really rambling, I'm sorry - I hope it's remained coherent.

You look great!

xoxo, Ashley

I used to have the exact same problem, don't get me wrong I love cooking but everyday I just ran out of inspiration. I used to cook for my best friend and my boyfriend, we all live together in student housing. Anyway my boy and best friend never seemed to pull their weight with the cooking and I was getting more and more tired and finally I snapped and scared the living daylights out of them. After that they agreed to take turns and it's been great because I can relax two days out of three and my food doesn't taste so boring.
Maybe you could arrange something like that with your husband, so you both cook and you feel less pressure to perform in the kitchen.

Also, blue looks good on you, really good!

annie said...

First off, I love your outfit posts... Such great inspiration! And as someone who's also balanced school and work for a couple of years, know this: this repetitious cycle doesn't end after college. But even the mundane "rinse and repeat" schedule can be fun... Though I think we'd all agree: We all need an Angelo in our lives.

Anonymous said...

I feel like I struggle as well with creating diversity in my posts, but sometimes I think that is the beauty of creating your voice through your blog - you develop a flow of content that you are known for.

After college you kind of get caught in the wash, rinse, repeat of work - so still lean on the fun moments in life (when you remember to snap photos) to provide those interesting blog updates.
