I'll have one side of crazy please

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
boots: famous footwear, socks: Gap, skirt: H&M, sweater vest: F21, leather jacket: H&M, scarf: street vendor in Paris
Last night I attempted to make cinnamon rolls for Family Home Evening with some friends. {In your head you're thinking "Cinnamon Rolls, bless her heart. This otta be good." right? Am I right?} These weren't even the impressive kind either. They were Pillsbury. I have no pride. Or skills for that matter and I was running late. So I popped those babies in the oven and they came out 13 minutes later. Pretty much perfection. But the frosting was still cold, so I put those in the microwave.
And here's where I need to explain myself:
So you know how when you're in the kitchen. And you're just goin crazy cause you're running low on time and obviously everything is more productive when you're goin a little crazy. And you're pushin buttons, and stirring things and opening and slamming cupboards, and are just basically this whirlwind of self destruction flying through your kitchen. Yes? OK. So then you know how you push 1 minute on the microwave and walk away and then it turns out that you really pushed 10? And then you smell this awful, awful burning smell from the other room and it hits you: I have a crap-load of a mess in my microwave right now. And three minutes to come up with a lovely treat to share with friends. Oh cra-aaap! crap. crap. crap.
Good. So you know what I'm talking about? You can totally relate? In fact, you yourself have made a giant explosive mess of frosting and burnt plastic in the microwave yourself before? Awesome. OK. Well I feel better.
Turns out cinnamon rolls without frosting are kind of terrible. But our nice friends ate them anyways. And I will single-handedly be finishing them off this week as a side to my eggs, because Husband refuses to touch them.
The End.

Oh, wait. not The End.
This morning someone tried to kill me. Yes. Yes, it's true. I woke up to a pillow being thrown over my face. It was a really big pillow and kind of heavy too. Suddenly I couldn't breath and started to panic a little bit. I tossed and turned and yelped "Tys! Someone is trying to kill me! I'm dying! I'm dying!" {drama much?}
Turns out, I was just dreaming. All that tossing and turning turned out to be just a leg flinch. And that gigantic suffocating pillow turned out to be Tys just trying to protect my eyes while he turned on our bedroom light. Somebody needs to take their crazy pills like right now.

maybe whip up yourself a little cream cheese frosting for the rolls while you eat them w/ the eggs.

cream cheese frosting makes everything better!

(and holy crap! look at all that snow. chillllay! but very festive for the upcoming holidays.)

You wore the skirt I am in love with... jealousy.

i've had times like that but not quite with icing... but did you ever notice that you never do that when you are just cooking for yourself?

Love the story, it made me laugh and reminded of the time I burnt toast. I was making some garlic bread (basically just toast with butter and garlic powder) in the oven, forgot to set the timer and burnt it all. I'm talking black and crispy. So I made up a second batch and tried again. Burnt again. Third time with the last few pieces of bread we had, burnt again. (I blame it on the baby who kept distracting me.) My dear hubbie and kids were kind enough to eat the few pieces we could salvage, but needless to say I watch the oven like a hawk when ever I make garlic bread now! :)

Oh, killing stuff in the microwave is always sad because of two reasons. The burnt product you really secretly needed NOW which is why you used the microwave in the first place and the big ol' mess you now have to clean. Glad your friends still enjoyed them!

The dream...perhaps a sign that you are eager for winter break and some time away from homework? ;)

I <3 this outfit!! You're so good at layering beautifully :)

I've totally messed up all kinds of stuff in the kitchen. For your cinnamon rolls though, just mix powdered/confectioner's sugar with a little little bit of milk, and it will make a great glaze :) You can get fancy and add cream cheese, etc., if you want, but just powered sugar and milk (or even water) will keep them from being dry, and turn them into the deliciousness you meant. keep trying though! you're learning :)

Hah! I'm just glad I'm not the only one who runs around like a crazy person, only to have things beeping and practically bursting into flame! Great outfit, though... At least you look cute! :)

I almost burned my apartment down the other day when I made tomato soup. Sad story. I pushed 10 instead of 1 too.
And umm...I am in love with Pillsbury cinnamon rolls. They're the only kind I'll eat, true story.

Love your smile-y photos! That striped skirt is fantastic with tall boots!

Okay people, LISTEN UP HERE! I was one of those, "nice friends" that got to eat one of those cinnamon rolls and they were DELI.cious! Obviously this girl has style and makes us all jealous and wish we could be that cute. and be able to pull off even a 1/3 of what she wears...but she lies when it comes to cooking. At least with those scrumdiddlyumcious cinnamon rolls. yummm. ;)

I was trying to make homemade caramel sauce (for caramel apples) and I thought it would be okay to use a plastic spoon to stir it. It totally wasn't. Minutes later I was standing over the kitchen sink with burning hot caramel sauce and a strainer, trying to strain out the pieces of plastic (from the spoon) to salvage my caramel sauce. Needless to say, it didn't work, and my once lovely caramel sauce went into the trash!

Ummm, those are some freaking awesome stories - I too have burnt items in the microwave - except mine involved a metal mug, some hot chocolate that needed to be hot, and the work microwave. Needless to say, when I walked back after popping the mug in the microwave, it was aflame. Did it stop me from pulling it out of the microwave? No, actually, and luckily I did not give myself third degree burns, pulling a flaming coffee mug out of the microwave.

I love how you mixed the plaid scarf with the striped skirt - and I can't believe that there is actually real snow on the ground where you live!! I would literally die! Let alone, take pictures in it!

One time I spilled a container of flour on (and in) our electric stove and the bf gave me the brilliant idea to try and vacuum it out - I got the worst shock of my life and it was a hell of a mess! We all do silly, mindless things sometimes!

hahaha you are so hilarious!! i've done this before, but with a horrible coffee mug that had some sparkly santa made of metallic death. it almost caught fire in my microwave.

I've had similar kitchen disasters... My most recent involved trying to heat kaiser rolls under the broiler (like Rachel Ray told me to in her cookbook) which caught fire in the oven. Terrifying.

That said, I adore your blog AND your style, and this outfit is layering at it's BEST!

Don't feel alone. I've completely destroyed a microwave because I cooked potatoes for eternity. I'm lucky I didn't burn the whole house down!

I once warmed up a fried fish sandwich in the microwave...didn't realize the wrapper was made of FOIL. Yep, set it on fire, then had to strategically rinse the sandwich so I could still eat it. #epicfail

That kitchen scenario just gets worse when you add kids. At least for me. I burn things all the time and forget about stuff in the microwave all the time because someone always gets hurt or poops while I'm trying to be domestic. I think your dream is hilarious- try a sleep mask so the light doesn't wake you next time!

Powdered sugar, milk, dash of vanilla. Problem solved, well, one problem anyway. Change the ratio of sugar to milk to make glaze or a thicker frosting.

As always, love the outfit!

When I complete my journey over at http://diariesofafedupfatgirl.blogspot.com/ I will totally attempt to pull of such a look and not feel like a complete idiot. haha linda from rosealamode sent me over here and i have been completely USELESS sense. basically i've been reading your blog every spare minute.

you remind me a lot of myself. my hubby and i got married when i was 21 (woohoo baby marriages!), met my freshman year of college, and have been in school together ever since- he just finished his masters of divinity and now i'm getting my masters in counseling.

ANNNYHOODLES- moral of the story IS that i had the same issue with a bagel before church one morning. meant to pop that sucker in for 20 seconds and accidentally pressed 20 minutes. yeah. our microwave never recovered and the burning stench lasted for like three weeks. but, the good news is that we got our security deposit back by some random miracle. so, all in all, who's complaining?
