and we all fall down

This is probably one of my favorite times of year. For several reasons of course, but one in particular thats kind of hilarious. Living in this town, it's always easy to tell who the newbies are and who the natives are. The natives being the ones who actually know how to walk in the snow...the newbies: those who are not so skilled. As you can see, I'm one of the more advanced natives who can get away with heels in these kinds of conditions. I won an award for that last year. True story.
Driving to school this morning, being careful to pump my breaks and give the car in front of me at least 20 ft. {are we impressed or what?} I saw 4 different peeps hit the deck. Two were boys ...which is always funnier to me for some reason ... and two were girls. Poor things got their bums all wet, but it was truly some priceless entertainment. Then. I get to campus and see three more. BAM! BAM! BAM! All of which tried to play it cool, but discreetly looked around to see if anyone was a witness. At which point, I am always tempted to be like "Hey guy-yyys! OVER HERE! Yep, I saw you. Nice one by the way. I give it a 10" Am I a meanie of what? I'm a meanie.

So last night I was picking out my outfit right? And I'm struggling hard core. {Completely eating my own words right now about this stuff being easy.} And Husband was laying in bed giving the thumbs up or down ... which I hadn't necessarily asked him to do. Mostly just because anything I wear with my red bra is a thumbs up.
Husband says: mmmm. nope. I don't really like that top. The pink's too light to go with that red plaid.
I said: yeah, you're probably right
Husband said: Hey, do you have a navy cardigan?
I said: yeah, but not in my 30 for 30
Husband said: I hate to break it to ya hon, but that was probably a big mistake. big.

Do you not love how into this he's getting?
Gaw! I'm in love.

These pictures are making me so excited for winter...and hahaha I love your wipe out stories. People falling is one of the funniest things to me (I know it's wrong?) but I'm glad to read that you feel the same. Love your outfit!

omg, david was doing the same thing last night. i tried on like 6 different outfits and he was like, "meh"...or "not my favorite." until finally the winner was put on. and that is what i'm wearing today. haha

I'm impressed he knew the word cardigan.

In four short days, since seeing it listed on Kendi's remixer list, I have become a huge fan of your blog! The photos are great and the outfits even better! I love that you aren't letting the impending weather get in the way of taking outdoor shots. - Katy

Gosh, you're just so darn adorable. I love the way your hair looks in these pictures. Also, great story about the husband.

Sadly every season I invariably slip and fall and am that person who turns beet red. Definately not a pro like you that can wear heels.

Monique said...

You are a good one to wear heels in snow. I went to school in Michigan, and I learned the hard way to keep it simple = winter boots. I fell and slipped down a hill once. Yep, slid down a hill! Guy saw me fall and helped me out, I was pretty embarassed, LOL.

Also, I totally thought the 30 for 30 was going to be easy...not so much - I am struggling and it's only day 5 for me!

Peace,
Monique

So beautiful! I love the combo of white and cream, perfect for the first of wintery weather too. That's probably why I've been so into creating Mother Of Pearl jewelry lately, hmmm.. Love your outfit and story.

That's amazing how you walk to school in heels. I can't imagine doing that around here... the hills are ferocious. Very lovely outfit! That's funny you saw soooo many people fall... so awkward and amusing.

I tried to get my husband to help me narrow down my 30 for 30 but he wouldn't have any parts of it. I tricked him though only giving him 2 choices at a time.

Liz (26 and Counting) said...

Hey whatever gets you through the day - if that's laughing at other people when they bite the dust (which I would) so be it!

Oh ps, you look fab!

Marissa said...

LOVE the outfit and the snow! I wish it were cold enough here in Texas to even where a sweater. Sadly it still feels like summer. I loved the snow when I lived in Oregon and I was always the one falling. Whenever I'd wipeout, I would just lay right there and laugh hysterically. Makes everyone's day better to see a crazy girl laughing in the snow. :)

Heidi said...

Blah, I've had a few "shoulda included that in my 30" moments. :/

BUT! You shouldn't worry, because this outfit is rockin'! I love how it's so hot & all it is is a white button down with kickin' jeans & heels. Awesome!

eleanor said...

I love both these little stories (and I love how into it he is getting too! My boy often has helpful advice about my outfits... but sometimes pretty unhelpful, also - heheh).

This outfit is so classic and gorgeous.

Your outfits and photos are always darling, thanks for the inspiration, humor and doses of reality! I remember those icy pathways in Rexburg and thought it would be so smart to heat the cement, a lot less bruised backsides and egos!

Could you possibly stop coming up with adorable outfits that I could easily re-create at home? My inspiration folder is getting pretty full, and my boyfriend is wondering why I keep addressing myself as Sydney. :)

Another win as always.

Wow! You guys are getting quite the weather! And you still manage to wear heels and they are basically exposing your toes, no less! You do deserve an award. I am wearing sparkly flats today, the weather is sunny, and I still managed to fall on my bottom in front of the kids, out on the playground. I'm not even a newbie, just a klutz!

Such a pretty, classic outfit! Your hair looks gorgeous! I don't know how you are walking in heels in the snow though - your award was well, well-deserved. Wait until you guys move to DC and you see how we handle snow! You will have many bouts of laughter...

Love this outfit! Your hair looks so pretty with your sweater. Though it's hard for me to fathom that anyone is getting snow right now -- it was 75 degrees here in Georgia, and jeans were a little much.

Your husband is so funny. Mine is getting into it too. Well actually he is counting the days until I have to do the laundry to keep up with my 30 for 30 outfits :)

Too funny about the newbies vs the natives. I never think about having newbies here, just always assume everyone's native. LOL. Funny.

Love this cardigan! Your ability to walk in heels in the snow is truly impressive. I've lived in the snowy Northeast my entire life and I become paralyzed as soon as there's a patch of ice on the sidewalk. I cling to my snowboots like a life raft from November to May, fashion be damned.

Cedar City is totally the same way with the natives and newbies. I walk in heels anyway. And I am totally the person who laughs out loud when anyone falls, including me. It's funny, why even try to act like it didn't happen? Embrace it and everyone gets to enjoy the moment out loud that way.

Colleen said...

Oh I'll add that my mom likes the winter olympics better than the summer ones because she likes all the ski accidents and people falling while ice skating.
