the librarian

Pants: Delias, Shirt: F21, Cargo Jacket: Target, Scarf: Gap, Watch: F21, Sunnies: Target

Not that these pictures have anything to do with that. I was just reminded today, as I was stamping invoices to be sent down to the campus accounting office, of my childhood ambition to be a librarian. I had glamorous dreams back then. Most of them due to my obsession with typing and stamping. I would set up my desk. Complete with my dad’s old discarded keyboard and my mom’s breast-pump handle serving as my “due date stamp”. {Thanks mom, for supporting my dreams.} I would make my sisters carry stacks of books to my desk to be “checked out” and I would type and breast-stamp my way into a happy frenzy. This, making me a child who was equal parts creative, easily entertained and obviously classy. Things continued to take a turn for the classy as I began my obsession with long, bright red, acrylic nails. {Thank 90’s.} But that’s a different story.

Side note: Being reminded of this has continued to solidify my resolve to not supply our future children with iPods, cell phones, video games and other unnecessary electronic toys while they are young. It’s amazing what kids can come up with on their own.

You look awesome. I love that you're not afraid to wear white in the fall. When I was younger I played DJ. I lined up all of our C.D.s and picked different song sequences to play on my boom box. I made my sisters organize the C.D.s. Not as classy...

P.S. your pictures have inspired me to enlist a photog. Now I just need you as my posing coach.

Roland keeps trying to get me to stop wanting to buy regular books, especially for the kids!He thinks e readers will be all future children will use. I refuse to believe that!

How fun you get to stamp stuff at your job- your living your childhood dream! How many people can say that?

....meanwhile I'm walking around in a frenzy with a building case of mastitis looking for the breast pump! As I recall, you were especially good at scanning and beeping because you had high aspirations to be a grocery store clerk (also classy). It was a secret (until now) that you received a little cash register for your TENTH birthday. Oh, you had so much fun with that! XOXOXO

I agree with Sarah, you have inspired me too. I'm trying to get dressed more then just on Sunday, normally the only people who would see me are my kids, because my hubby is at work all day... So I figure if I post what I wear it will help me to actually get dressed, unless I really want to show off my pjs!

I played bank teller...but I wasn't just any bank teller-I was a drive thru bank teller. Complete with a little mailbox that I would slide up and down the edge of the desk like the ones they have in the tubes. I'm cool too...it's ok!

I totally agree about electronic gadgets-I used to play teacher with my sisters and we had a blast-with no tv's, computers, etc.

Glad I found your blog! :D

I used to play "teacher" with my stuffed animals, including assigning homework and disciplinary actions. Today, I'm working on my MA on the road to my PhD to become a professor. Kinda weird.

I totally did this when I was little lol. Except I also played hotel and would pretend to make reservations and check people in via an old broken phone *so embarrassing lol*

Oh my gosh! I had the dream of being a librarian too, which is funny cause now I hate reading, but I always dreamed of doing that.(maybe cause libraries are quiet, maybe cause librarians seemed cool...maybe cause it seemed a cushy job).

I'd dress up in mums glasses and scarves and old driving gloves and sort books in the living room!

I also went to a school dress up book parade as my school librarian! So awkward for Mrs O'Brian (the librarian, not a random person, just thought I should clarify that)!
