just the ticket

We got a ticket the other day. Actually husband did, but saying ‘we’ makes it sound nicer right? I was on my way to bring him a sandwich, when he calls me. He tells me, “um, Syd? I got a ticket today.” And I say, “Oh you did, did you. Well, what for mister?” And he tells me. I proceed to give him a hard time about it, mostly just cause I’m the one usually getting tickets around here. {For parking mind you, never speeding. For the record, I have never claimed parking as one of my talents.} SO. As I continue to tease him and am in mid sentence of saying, “That ticket was how much?” I see lights in my rear view mirror. The red and blue kind. Crap. I hang up with Husband right as he is in mid sentence of saying, “You see what in your rear view mirror?” and I immediately pull over and whip out my can of mace spray. I don’t tend to use it very often, but it really comes in handy for moments like these when I need to look like I’ve been crying.
Not really.
Turns out, I was going 29 in a 25. Pa-lease. This is what happens when you live in a town with a zero point nothing crime rate. As it happens, I ended up getting away with only a warning. Maybe this was because the officer was nice. Or maybe it was because it was my very first time getting pulled over and I didn’t actually need any mace to make my eyes tear up just a little bit. Either way, we managed to hit our ticket/warning quota for the entire year within mere minutes of each other. That has to be some kind of freak record or something.

Oh my gosh, that is crazy that you almost got a ticket while talking about your husband's ticket! I feel ya on the small town thing --- once you drive into our county line, you have to be careful about speeding even a little bit because the cops. They are watching.

I always love looking at your outfit photos. You look so glamorous and the photos could easily have come from a magazine!

HAha, hubby and I had the "ticket" coincidence in the same week last year but not the same day : you win !
You look so beautiful in those pics. I am really glad I found your blog : it's such a beautiful place on the internet ...(hope it doesn't sound creepy !)

ha! that's so funny--i'm always caught doing something wrong when i'm most smug about how right i am.

p.s. wishing now that christopher had such a great scarf collection as your beau seems to :)

October 25, 2010 7:19 PM

Oh my goodness! Crazy! I've never been pulled over, either, but I'm pretty sure I'd cry if I was.

Great classic outfit!

October 25, 2010 7:23 PM

Ohhh I hate getting pulled over. One time, I was leaving my college town to go home for Christmas and I got pulled over-it was the first time in my life EVER and the cop still gave me a 90 dollar ticket-I didn't even get a warning-I must not be as cute as you ;) haha Or maybe the cops here are just ruthless...Love the outfit as always! :D
God Bless

Thats hilarious :) Every time I've gotten pulled over it's for like 5 over, and I'm in Salt Lake! You'd think the cops would have something better to do!

I love your boots! How do they do in the winter? I'm having the hardest time finding ones I like this year!

October 25, 2010 7:44 PM

Holy haze. Amazing pictures girl!

October 25, 2010 7:49 PM

Crazy! Glad you got out of your ticket. The cops in Idaho must get so bored.

October 25, 2010 7:55 PM

Oh many, getting pulled over sucks. I swear I age ten years every time I pass a cop. Tickets are just such a waste of money that could be spent on pretty things! :)

October 25, 2010 8:19 PM

Seriously!! WHat are the odds?!?!?!?! THat's sooo ironic!

Hahaha mace... you trickster you.

Glad you got let off!

So funny! More proof that you 2 are meant to be...

PS Perhaps you didn't get the memo: pretty blond girls don't get tickets!

October 25, 2010 8:27 PM

Serves you right haha :)

October 25, 2010 9:01 PM

and if you were in california, you would have gotten a ticket for being on your phone!

love the lighting in your photos- won't the time change affect how you take them in the evening?

October 25, 2010 9:01 PM

Once upon a time my parents got speeding tickets 2 days apart. They were going the same speed and got pulled over by the same cop on the same road (going opposite directions, at least). True story.

Also, 29?? No judge would uphold that.

October 25, 2010 9:10 PM

I wonder if it was the same cop! Funny funny.

October 25, 2010 9:21 PM

i have lived in that town...and it's infamous for those "4-over in the 25 zone" kinda tickets. i never got one but huz sure did! ahhahaha! i guess women get away with warnings more than men....?

October 25, 2010 9:53 PM

That's hysterical! Just curious, what kind of camera do you have? Your photos are always amazing!

October 25, 2010 10:53 PM

your blog is adorable! :)

i just got a ticket last week :(

October 26, 2010 12:50 AM

I want your wardrobe :( You always look gorgeous! Anyways I've had my fair share of tickets. There's no scary movie in the world as frightening as when those blue lights go on behind you.

October 26, 2010 1:50 AM

both of you are just adorable.

October 26, 2010 2:01 AM

wow, talk about being on the same wavelength! hilarious story.

October 26, 2010 6:51 AM

Campus police are always so nice to me..I've been pulled over twice (in my whole life) on the same hill and they let me off both times! Kind souls.

I'm glad you guys do everything together! Hehe.

Hey Syndey, I just started reading your blog and let me just say, it's absolutely adorable! Your life seems pretty fab and I can't wait to continue reading. Keep blogging!

That is hysterical!! It sounds to me like the cop was being a little silly. I mean 4 over the limit? seriously? he must have been bored...

My worst ticket story involved making fun of my hubby for 10 minutes... only to find out that it was me who'd done it. oopsy

October 26, 2010 7:31 AM

That is craaazy! And for the record, I racked up about 10 tickets in my college days...atleast those don't go on your permanent driving record!

October 26, 2010 7:58 AM

Getting pulled over is terrible! I got pulled over @ 16 driving home to PA thru VA. I was admiring this car next to me and it's pretty blue paint...next thing I knew he was pulling me over for speeding...it was an unmarked police car. I was terrified and couldn't have contained my tears even if I tried. I didn't get a ticket, but he made me have my parents call him when I got home. I was mortified. I haven't been pulled over since.

ps. I love your blog. I'm a relatively new reader and I'm completely hooked - you're fabulous!

I have the HUGEST fear of getting pulled over. I also used to have the HUGEST fear of getting my car towed, but that already happened this week...ugh. I pray you keep getting parking tickets and that your car never gets towed (Not that I wish you get parking tickets...errrrr...).

Once you move to the DC area, you will long for low traffic and police with time on their hands.

I'm glad you got off with a warning.

October 26, 2010 9:00 AM

I was pulled over once (for speeding, shh) and I thought it was the scariest thing. Glad you didn't get a ticket though and love your jacket!

No, not such a freak accident.

One weekend, my hubby went to work out of state. He was only gone for maybe 4 days. On the way down, (in one state) he got a speeding ticket. The next day I got a speeding ticket (in our state, and it was my first ever in the whoe 16 years of my driving), and the day after that, (in yet another state) hubby got another one. Talk about having no Christmas that year!

October 26, 2010 12:07 PM

Too funny. Gorgeous shots, too! I love how the sun looks here, with your hair. Very beautiful.

And I get speeding tickets like, constantly. I think I am a bad driver....

I have those same boots and haven't figured out how to wear them yet, so thanks for sharing this. Do you mind me asking how tall you are...I only ask because I am barely 5 feet and therefor can only pull off certain styles...would be great to have a basis point when I try to knock off your outfits, lol!
